The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has released the results of an air quality sample it took on June 10 near the “Bunn” gas drilling facility operated by Williams Production, located to the south of FM 1171 and Lusk Lane in Flower Mound.

The benzene concentration, at 0.12 parts per billion, is below the state’s short-term and long-time air monitoring comparison values.

The TCEQ has stated that background benzene readings for ambient air quality around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex are generally around 0.20 to 0.25 parts per billion.

This is the sixth time that the air quality has been tested at or near Williams sites in Flower Mound this year. So far, all six tests have shown air quality in compliance with TCEQ limits.

The Bunn facility in Flower Mound consists of two natural gas wellheads, two collection tanks for produced water and a gas-lift compressor that is surrounded by a sound-abatement wall.

In addition to air testing performed by the Town of Flower Mound and the TCEQ, Williams does its own monitoring.

"We continue to voluntarily monitor the air quality at our operations using infrared cameras, laser methane leak detectors and air sampling," said Todd Thompson, Williams environmental manager.

Williams officials said that their environmental, health and safety staff is in the process of performing infrared inspections at their sites throughout Flower Mound, Argyle and Bartonville over the course of the next two weeks.
