In the wake of the terrible destruction seen in Haiti and Chile, the need for preparation has taken on new meaning for many of us. We are taking a second look at our food storage, our family emergency plans, and our savings accounts. We are beginning to ask ourselves more seriously the question, “Am I really prepared?”

In an effort to answer this question, the American Red Cross, CERT, FEMA, SPCA of Texas, Denton Fire Department, Denton Police Department, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have teamed up to provide a free public service event called Hope Through Preparation. The purpose of this event is to present the greater Denton area community with a message of hope; the hope that comes when we are prepared physically, financially, safely, and otherwise for whatever may come.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 10, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 4501 Teasley Ln. in Denton.

There will be seminars, exhibit booths, demonstrations, and free product drawings available for the public. Three seminars will be offered hourly and will focus on the following topics: Protecting Wealth, with William W. Cudd, D.O.; Preserving Wealth, with Patricia Miller, C.P.A.; and Planning for Safety with Mike Penaluna, Director of Emergency Management for the City of Denton. There will also be a residential solar panel presentation and an on-site blood drive for those who would like to participate.

Terry Gosney is the contact person for this event. He can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
