Church members “depart to serve” |

 More than 300 children and adults in the Flower Mound area recently shared their time and talents with their neighbors, and showed them an example of God’s love.
Flower Mound United Methodist Church’s inaugural Depart to Serve event sent volunteers into the community after church services ended on Sept. 23 to put faith into action.
Dressed in event t-shirts, FMUMC members caravanned from the parking lot, or met in church classrooms to participate in Depart to Serve projects, including: Mending fences at Flower Mound's Rocky Point Mobile Home Community; Delivering cookies to local firefighters; Stocking the shelves at CCA-Lewisville and Salvation Army-Lewisville; Repairing and painting homes in the community; Writing letters to soldiers serving in Afghanistan; Making crafts for orphaned teens living at the United Methodist Boys Ranch in Gore, OK; Making blankets for children in need.
“Our Depart to Serve volunteers demonstrated that even the smallest action can make a big difference in the transformation of the world, whether it’s a conversation with a lonely, hurting senior, or a fresh coat of paint that restores a low-income community’s sense of worth and dignity,” said Senior Pastor Holly Gotelli.
