Flower Mound Mayor Tom Hayden and former mayor Jody Smith hosted a fundraiser Wednesday for Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D. at Hayden's home in Bridlewood.

Dr. Burgess (R-Lewisville) is seeking his sixth term this November in the 26th Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mrs. Hayden told all who would listen at 2 different gatherings a little over a year ago that Tom would be running against Dr. Burgess. Strange bedfellows!

So you pay your elected officals the incredible salary of nothing and they are supposed to dedicate every waking hour to you?

Why and/or how is this news? If I was Hayden, I would be tending to the duties the citizens elected me to perform not hosting wine and cheese fundraisers.

Tom and Karen Hayden are charming hosts and they did a marvelous job, along with lots of help from Jody Smith, to plan and carry out a splendid evening with Congressman Burgess. They literally packed the house with guests from near and far. The food and wine was plentiful and the company was stimulating. Dr. Burgess was his usual lexicon of info pertaining to the latest bills in the House and the overall condition of the country. After bringing the crowd up to date, he fielded several questions from his very eager and attentive constituents. Before Mayor Hayden handed the floor to the congressman he remarked: "The deaths of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein have been confirmed; they recently registered to vote in Chicago." You're a pretty good opening act Tom, but your hospitality, warmth and sincerity is unparalleled.

So Hayden hosts a fundraiser for Dr. Burgess in his home? He told me less than two years ago that he was going to run against the Congressman on a platform of anti-fracking.
