Bartonville offers mosquito dunks to residents PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 16 July 2012 01:37

The Town of Bartonville is handing out mosquito dunks that kill larva.

The free treatments are being made available to residents to assist in controlling the mosquito population this summer.

Denton County has reported at least six cases of mosquito-borne West Nile disease this summer, with a majority of the cases in southern Denton County.

Mosquito dunks provide long-term protection for 30 days or more. One dunk treats up to 100 sq. ft. of water regardless of depth.

Once wet, the dunks kill the immature, aquatic stage of the mosquito in standing water, including small pools, bird baths and ornamental ponds. Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) is a beneficial organism that is lethal to mosquito larvae, but harmless to fish, humans and other animals.

Residents can stop by Town Hall during regular business hours between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and pick up as many as four free dunks per household.  Proof of residence is required.

I made a simple mosquito fan trap for a dollar that hooks to a cheap box fan that will eliminate all indoor mosquitoes and if left outside, will over time remove them from the neighborhood. It only costs about a dollar in raw materials if you have a fan. I put the video on how you can easily make my fan trap on youtube.

There is no excuse for you or your family or pets to suffer from mosquitos. You can run a fan all month long for about 2 dollars worth of electricity.
