Two local moms were treated to a $200 shopping spree and fashion makeover at Clothes Mentor in Highland Village on Saturday after winning a contest that recognized their tireless efforts.

Amanda Allen of Highland Village and Irene Galera of Carrollton were nominated by their family members through the Mama Matters program, created by Kays’ Dollar Savers.

The women were chauffeured by limousine from their homes and greeted at the store by a fashion consultant, where they tried on and picked out new outfits and received a makeover.

Both women are stay-at-home moms and homeschool their children.

Their families wrote letters to express their love and respect for the outstanding mom in their home.

Irene was nominated by her 13-year-old daughter, Karen, and Amanda was nominated by her husband, Scott.

“Amanda works tirelessly to take care of our five forever children and our little 7-week-old foster daughter. With ages 11, 9, 6, 5, 4 & 7 weeks she has her hands full most days as she homeschools our oldest three and cares for the others,” Scott Allen wrote in his letter to Mama Matters.

“With me being the primary breadwinner and working at a church, we don't have a ton of extra cash to spend on ourselves so she could definitely use the $200 shopping spree and some help deciding how to spend it. She is always concerned with how she looks or doesn't want to look like a "frumpy mom".

Mama Matters is designed to recognize outstanding mothers in the community with prizes and gifts donated by local retailers and small businesses, according to Kays’ Dollar Savers owner, Rhonda Kay.
