Monday, 14 May 2012 09:28

After months of delays, lawsuits, redistricting fights, and rule changes, the long awaited Texas primary election is here and voters will head to the polls starting today to cast their ballots.

The primaries determine candidates for state, county, and national offices in this November's election.

At the top of the list for most Texas voters will be the race for the open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Also on the ballot are multiple seats, including the presidential primary, as well as county positions like sheriff, tax assessor/collector, district court judges and constables. Republicans will cast a vote on the proposition to repeal the nation's new healthcare law. Click here for a sample Republican ballot and here for a sample Democratic ballot.

The early voting period runs until May 25. Election Day is Tuesday, May 29.
