Heavy rain causes traffic delays, flooding PDF Print E-mail

Torrential rain dumped around 4 inches on Denton County Wednesday shutting down a handful of area roads due to high water.

DFW Airport recorded 4.26 inches of rain as of 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Justin had 4.21 inches, and Denton Municipal Airport logged 3.49 inches.

North Texas set an all-time record for rainfall in a 24-hour period in January, according to the National Weather Service.

Roads that are affected due to flooding in southwest Denton County as of Thursday afternoon:

C. Wolfe Rd - CLOSED
Eakin Cemetery (east hwy 156) - OPEN
Jackson Rd – East - CLOSED
Jackson Rd – West - CLOSED
Old Alton @ Copper Canyon - OPEN

Rector Rd (West) - OPEN
Swafford Rd - OPEN
Jim Chrystal @ mouse hole - OPEN
West County Line Rd - OPEN
Old Alton @ FM 2181 - OPEN
Copper Canyon @ RR Crossing - OPEN
Hill Top Rd (between Old Alton @ Macaway) - OPEN
Britt Rd @ Creek - OPEN
Tim Donald Rd between FM 1384 & Strader - OPEN
