Spring is here! The fresh air and blue skies have people feeling their best and it is great to see so many people outside. Now is the time of year that many of us will pick back up our active routines and begin the journey to a healthier self.
This is a great community for staying active. The different trail and park systems offer recreational activities for any interest. Look on your town’s website for great park and recreation information.
One of my favorite activities is participating in the popular fun-run events hosted by communities throughout North Texas. Nothing feels quite like the rhythmic breathing, muscular exertion, and sense of accomplishment that comes from running.
5k and fun-run races happen each weekend across North Texas and have become an extremely popular family activity. Fun for all ages, these events are usually tied to a charity or benefit and allow families and individuals to enjoy the outdoor comradery of the other participants while supporting a good cause.
Some local races happening this month are: Denton Cinco De Mayo 5k, The Colony Love Run, and the Heritage Run in Keller. Come take advantage of the opportunities to participate by running, walking, and being outside enjoying the upbeat atmosphere that surrounds each event. Be sure to look online and around town for the upcoming Flower Mound ‘Around the Mound’ 5k, and fun run Saturday June 2nd.
Keep in mind; with the start or restart of any exercise routine comes the chance of discomfort and injury. Each activity has its own unique risk factors and repetitive stress to the muscles and joints of our body. Always warm-up your body with some light stretching and cardio to prepare yourself for activity.
