Highland Village council approves Whole Foods site plan |

 It's finally official: the Highland Village City Council Tuesday unanimously approved a site plan amendment to allow the construction of Whole Foods at the northwest corner of FM 407 and FM 2499 in The Shops at Highland Village.
The upscale grocer's building will have a footprint of 38,251 square feet in addition to a second floor mezzanine of 6,000 square feet that will accommodate a seating area for dining and a potential wine and cheese bar.
City officials said that the exterior of the store will complement the existing buildings in the mall, with stone, a wood terrace and live screening as green walls on the exterior of the building.
“The approval of Whole Foods as a new retailer and corporate resident in Highland Village has fulfilled a vision and goal for our economic development in Highland Village,” said Mayor Pat Davis.
To accommodate the store, an existing building at the center housing Coldwater Creek and Coldwater Creek Spa will be demolished. City officials said that the tenants, Coldwater Creek and Coldwater Creek The Spa, are involved in negotiations with the mall's owners to relocate within the center.
Demolition and construction is planned to begin in May with Whole Foods opening sometime in the first half of 2014.
“Whole Foods will bring a new shopping experience to Highland Village that will provide the finest natural and organic foods available, they maintain the strictest and highest quality standards of any grocery store, and they have an unshakeable commitment to sustainable agriculture, which meets the desires of the residents of Highland Village,” said councilmember Fred Busche.
