(Updated 10/22/12) Many area residents wasted no time casting their ballot for the Nov. 6 General Election. Lines were reported at several Denton County polling places on Monday, the first day of early voting.

A total of 12,300 voters cast ballots Monday in Denton County, according to the Denton County Elections Administration. In comparison, the first day of early voting in 2008 saw 10,005 ballots cast.

Early voting continues until Friday, Nov. 2.

Besides the presidential election on the ballot, area residents will pick one of four candidates vying to replace U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison; U.S. Congressman Michael Burgess is seeking his sixth term in the 26th District of the House of Representatives; State Senator Jane Nelson and State Rep. Tan Parker face Libertarian party challengers; and a new Denton County Tax Assessor-Collector will be chosen.

Other races involve three Supreme Court seats, Railroad Commissioner, a State Board of Education member and various judges.  See sample ballots here.

Denton County residents can cast their early ballots this Monday-Friday, Oct. 22–26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 27, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.;  Sunday, Oct. 28, from 1–6 p.m.; and Oct. 29–Nov. 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The closest early voting locations include the Flower Mound Police and Court Building, Highland Village Municipal Complex, Argyle Town Hall, Lewisville Municipal Annex and Justin Municipal Building.  Click here for a complete list of early voting locations.

On Election Day, you must vote at the location at which your precinct is assigned.  Residents that do not know their precinct number can call the Elections Office at 940-349-3200 or use the online Voter Registration Search to determine their precinct.

October 9 was the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election.

Texas has a record number of registered voters for the upcoming election, according to the Texas Secretary of State's Office.
