Lantana History
Republic Property Group bought 1,524 acres from the family-owned company of Rayzor Investments Ltd. in July 1999.
The community was first called Rayzor Ranch, before the developer changed the name to Lantana.
The original plans for Lantana included multifamily dwellings. This component was later dropped.
Initial plans also called for a Marriott Hotel adjacent to the golf club.
Construction on the golf course started at the beginning of 2000.
The Dallas Morning News wrote an article about the new community in May 2000.
CoServ Electric Cooperative supplied 30 million dollars in utility investment to assist in the development of the neighborhood.
The first new home was sold in February 2001.
The inaugural issue of the Lantana Live newsletter was produced in Fall 2001.
Lantana welcomed its 100th resident in July 2002.
Eugenia Porter Rayzor Elementary School opened in Fall 2002.
As of December 2003, Larkspur had the most homes completed.
LantanaLinks.com was launched in December 2003.
Additional acreage on the north end of the development was purchased by Republic Property Group in early 2004.
A 7,700 square foot expansion of the Lantana Golf Clubhouse was completed in October 2004.
The North Amenity Center, featuring a Community Room, opened in February 2006.
Two Lantana residents were elected for the first time to the Denton County Fresh Water District #6 Board of Directors in May 2006.
Lantana will eventually contain between 3,500 and 4,000 single-family homes.
