Review: Zoës Kitchen

Postby Common Sense Al » Thu Jan 24, 2013 7:14 pm

It's been a long time since I did a restaurant review... but here goes a short one...

Sorry, no photos... my wife gets embarrassed when I whip out my big DSLR and start taking food pics, though if I had thought about it before I ate all my food, then I would have used a small camera that I keep in the car.

I had the steak rollups with potato salad ($8.29) and a big chocolate chip cookie ($1.99). The steak rollups were very good but I was disappointed in the potato salad as I thought it was rather bland. I thought the cookie was quite good though having large bits of chocolate. I do have a weakness for sweets, unfortunately.

We sat outside... what a nice day today... perfect for outdoor eating.

Service and speed were fine... no problems.

Steak rollups (4.25 out of 5): :D :D :D :D 1/4
Cookie (4.25 out of 5): :D :D :D :D 1/4
Potato salad (2.5 out of 5): :? :? 1/2

Now THAT'S common sense.

I didn't order the potato salad when I was there - the sign says "no mayo." That's why it appears bland to those of us who are used to the mayo.

Yeah, but do you really need mayo for flavor? :D

It had onions and other stuff in it, but still didn't seem to have much taste. Perhaps if I try it again it will be a better, more flavorful "batch".

No biggie... but I do like a good potato salad.

The worst thing is, they'll replace roasted potato's and veggies with potato salad, and ya, it's not great.

I loved it the firs time there, after that they succeeded in proving my initial feeling about them, before I went there, as true. Haven't been back.

funny,

interesting. :D

I wouldn't use flash as I think that can be annoying to others and the photos aren't as good anyway, but if person A is disturbed by person B quietly (& without flash) taking photos of person's B food, then I think that's person A's issue.

What turned me off about the place was the outlandish calorie counts. Their Greek salad is 710 calories, including 42gm of fat - or 50% from fat.

I think you do. I use Hellman's because I think it has more flavor than Kraft's. I don't know for sure, but when I was told by a friend that Zoe's doesn't use mayo, they thought there might be yogurt in it.
