CoServ reports scam or theft ploy

Postby admin » Mon Dec 10, 2012 5:13 pm

CoServ recently took reports from two Flower Mound Members that they have received telephone calls from (682) 444-0054. The anonymous caller claimed to have information about a rate increase and offered a free walk-thru of the Member’s home to help lower utility bills.

Though CoServ does offer free energy audits to Members, these are conducted when proactively requested by the Member.

Members are cautioned to hang up and contact CoServ if they receive calls of this nature. If someone comes to your door and claims to represent CoServ, please don’t allow access without proper identification and call CoServ to confirm that we’ve sent personnel to your home and for what reason.

If CoServ does contact you to discuss your account, the caller ID will carry the CoServ name identifier from 940-321-7800 or a 7800 extension. Lastly, rest assured no rate increase is in the works with CoServ.

We were asked to provide the following information from CoServ.

If a stranger called you at home and asked you for money, would you pay out? If she invited herself over to your house, would you grant access? These two scenarios have played out recently in separate incidents involving unwanted phone calls made to CoServ Electric Members.

In one case, a Member was told she needed to pay $152 within an hour to avoid being disconnected. In the other, a Member was offered a free home walk-through to help lower utility bills. In both cases, the Members did the right thing: They hung up and contacted CoServ at 940-321-7800. Members can also email reports of suspected scams to contact@coserv.com.
