That's not really an excuse is it? If *one* member is unable to addend, what happened to all the other members?

How many of the members make a quorum? How many were not there?

Here is a perspective on the issue from former DO Mayor and Town Council member Dick Cook: http://www.crosstimbersgazette.com/opin ... e-oak.html

Yes well, no fine. (old nonsensical saying.)

In a small town, where the P&Z members are elected/appointed from that town, since all applications are from that town regarding activities in that town, how can you ever really have a conflict of interest? Unless it is your own application on your own property, I don't think this is a valid excuse. Or are we to believe that only people who don't have gas leases are eligible to vote on an issue affecting those with gas leases?

This would mean (according to the Williams meeting), that only people living east of Simmonds road in Double Oak can vote on an issue affecting those people living west of Simmonds road? Hypothetically, if all gas leases were signed, would we then have to recruit citizens from Lantana or Flower Mound to make the call for Double Oak?

Nice, real nice. Now they found a method to limit the time for public input. These guys are nothing if not clever.

I am totally against them putting the site next to Lantana. We already have enough wells around us. If the site goes in and there are any issues with it, you can watch your home values go down just like they did in Dish, TX. :(

Admin: I would like to see a poll on what the resident's of Lantana think about this.

This well is substantially farther from Lantana than many of the other wells sucking the oil and gas out from under Lantana. Why don't you object to those wells and leave Double Oak out of it?

Why are you convinced if all the other wells around you are fine that these wells will turn us into Dish, TX?

No I don't have mineral rights so I have nothing to gain by those facilities being there as far as I know.

This "excessive caution" I find bizarre.

Have you seen the devastating impact of aircraft failures? We have a huge history of well-documented mistakes, poor maintenance, pilot error and a host of other causes that leadt to catastrophic accidents. SO using your reasoning, why take a chance and let's not fly at all?

Choose any industry - manufacturing, mining, whatever and there are documented failures, pollution accidents and so forth. "Why take a chance?"

Automobiles, accidents, driver error, manufacturer recalls, the recent Toyota, the infamous Ford Exploder - The Edsel, but for some bizarre reason we still "take a chance" every day.

Smoking is probably the weirdest. There is no singe benefit that accrues from smoking, the negative impacts and healthcare costs are well-documented, yet we still do it.

Do you know how many oil wells there are worldwide? What do you suppose the accident rate is? Bring it close to home. How many oil and gas wells are in Texas? How many clearly documented, unremediated instances of pollution or impacts to health are there? So seriously, should we just shut the entire industry down rather than "take a chance?"

"Stuff happens" - Forrest Gump.

Well - I try to take my chances when it makes sense. So - using your
example, if I felt uncomfortable flying a certain airline - I would not.
Statistically speaking, flying on an airplane is still safer than most
other means of transportation. This appears not to be the case when it
comes to gas well drilling. The agencies that are supposed to control or
patrol the gas companies to ensure that greed does not overcome
responsibility for life ( for other people - I am guessing right now that
most gas company executives don't live near a well) had their hands tied by
Dick Cheney (oh yeah - no personal agenda there!). Dish, TX is real. You
can chose to ignore it or take the time to at least understand it. The
mayor of Dish had nothing to gain by talking to us. He took time out of his
personal life to meet with us and to warn us not to make the same mistakes
that were made in Dish. All I am trying to say is, ask questions, ask for
proof, ask for information and consider the source. Of course, the gas
companies will say all is fine - but this is our lives we are talking
about. Let's err on the side of caution and investigate independently. This
is not about who is right and who is wrong. It's about our children and
grandchildren - our future. It would make sense to ensure we have the right
information to make the best decision. Money is not everything. Actually -
it's precious little once your and your family's health has been impacted.

Wiem,

You guessed wrong. The CEO of Exxon (Tillerson) just purchased The old Star Gate Horse ranch, right across from Lantana for his wife. They acquired no mineral rights, but ensured that former US congressman Richard Armey's wells across the fence would be at least 400 feet away. I bet he is really terrified of drilling. Stop clenching.
