The BELO Republican Gubernatorial Debate

Postby JKTex » Sat Jan 30, 2010 1:50 pm

Wondering if anyone watched and what you think.

I think it was much better than the 1st debate and they actually did a better job with control. And I also think 2 of them stood out, again, as grandstanding politicians; one worse than the other, but one is working hard on sucking up to the 3rd's supporters.

I just hope Texas voters are not as stupid as Perry appears to be hoping for. And yes, I've voted for him 2 times. But enough is enough.

And polls show now that even she beats White. Now people supporting Perry only because they think he is the only one to insure keeping White out, can relax and vote what's right, Medina.

KBH lost ground while Medina has gained ground. Considering the huge money everyone else has and is spending, Medina is really shaking things up and gaining fast. Lets hope there;s enough time before March 2. The other 3 have TV ads to their advantage to get in front of people. Medina is relying on actually meeting face to face and talking to people nonstop.

Now I think that Medina is a little "nuts". Yes, she's got some good ideas, but she thinks the way to fix everything is to get the gov't out. She thinks that taking gov't out of healthcare will fix it.

She also said that the other two are "...a team of economic tricksters intent on destroying our freedoms and selling Texas to the highest bidder." While she may not agree with them, does she really think their intention is to "destroy our freedoms and sell Texas to the highest bidder"? I hope not.

So I'm thinking Perry may be the best option, but not sure. Definitely not voting for Hutchinson though. That I know.

When she's talking about selling to the highest bidder she's eluding to the things Perry has done or tried to do like with the TTC and Toll management the business going to foreign companies and other back door deals (The Gardasil thing with his ties to the Pharma) and he has other deals that dn't make the news like shady real estate which a lot of is hidden behind his brother I think it is. KBH is too easy.

Her stance on Government is to put it back to what it was intended to be, not a control on everything. Even conservatives get used to the G taking care of everything, or looking to the G to look out for "we the people" which doesn't work. How complex is our lives today compared to even 30 years ago, navigating laws on top of laws which were written to solve problems that didn't exist or there were already laws that aren't being enforced. Freedom and liberty.

I'm not niave enough to think that if she were elected that she would make all of her changes. Obviously, (well not to some people) the Governor doesn't just make things happen. The legislature has a little part in it, but she wants "We the people" to have more to do with it. Texas has passed legislation that she's admitted she personally does not agree with but "we the people" voted for it and so be it.

Just her way of thinking can wake people up and we can start moving in the right direction. I doubt anyone has any grandiose ideas that in 1 Governors term, we'll change the world. But we can start.

I also think she's one of the few that understand, or at least respects the difference in Texas State government compared to other states. It's important to understand where and how things were started.

I got a kick out of KBH being completely stumped as to who the 1st Governor of Texas was.

Medina has now moved up in the polls to where she may actually force a run off with Perry. There's still 3 weeks left and that gap could close in fast.

Ray Hutchinson AKA his Kay Baily, is still falling fast. I think she's just been surviving on the millions being spent and that won't keep her alive in the race. Not a bad thing.

What the heck... I'll probably vote for Medina anyway (the most "real" person to normal Texans)... they all say and do stupid things. If there's a runoff between Perry and KBH, which is likely, then I'll vote for Perry.

Ya, the sad truth is, it takes millions of $$$ for anyone to have a chance at a an office like Governor.

Now that Perry and KBH are cranking out the TV commercials slinging mud at each others, it's taking peoples focus off the pool of all candidates and drawing attention to themselves. The polls are reflecting that too. LBH has a pretty sneaky attack with her nice guy add's sucking up to Perry supporters as if they are very similar but she somehow stands out as the one that genuinely cares. She's been in Washington too damn long, she might even be able to make herself believe it for the campaign.

Put $20 million in Medina's campaign and see what happens.

Politics sucks. But on the upside, I have a commitment that I'll have some cool pens in my hand soon.

Yeah, part of the reason I'm probably voting for the "underdog". It might be nice to see a "normal" person in 'high' office instead of someone who has millions to spend.

I did hear a Medina commercial on 570 AM the other day... it was pretty good.,. definitely more positive than the mud slingers.
