Review: Rosa's Cafe

Postby Common Sense Al » Sun Nov 18, 2007 5:22 pm

Yesterday night I bought the family combo fajita pack with beef and chicken for take-out (drive-through). It comes with sour cream, shredded cheese, salsa, beans, rice, and 12 tortillas.

With the meat were quite a few charred jalepenos and some onions and green peppers (but not a lot of onions and peppers)

They seemed quite busy but the wait wasn't too bad.

Quick review:
Tortillas (4 out of 5; fresh, thick and soft):
:) :) :) :)

Fajita chicken meat (3 out of 5):
:) :) :)

Fajita beef meat (3 out of 5):
:) :) :)

Beans (3 out of 5; very runny when very hot, but more normal when cooled):
:) :) :)

Rice (2.5 out of 5):
:) :) 1/2

Guacamole (2.5 out of 5; seemed bland):
:) :) 1/2

Overall (3 out of 5):
:) :) :)

A lot of food for the price, but as others have said, it seems to be lower quality. The meat had a strong charred flavor (which I liked). My wife suspects heavy use of MSG. :)

Taco Tuesday is great! For a cheap price you get a good meal. I like Rosa's except for their air-conditioner. Like most restaurants that work for a quick turnover of diners, they keep it turned down to artic temperatures so that you will leave after you finish eating without hanging around. I guess Rosa's truly qualifies as a "fast food" restaurant.

We love Rosa's........for what is is. It is not Christina's or any other high end Mexican restaurant. It is great fast food in my mind. The food is really good and much better than Taco Bell or Taco Cabana and I can get a margarita for $.50 more than a pop.

We can usually dine there with our three kids and get out of there for under $20 (if we don't get crazy on the margaritas :D )

Wife and I tried Rosa's (take home) just the other night. It was mediocre, at best.

We had the chicken fajita dinner.

1. It was overpriced for fast food texmex. Each was about $9.
2. The amount of chicken it came with was minimal. Barely filled two soft tortillas.
3. The refried beans and rice seemed like it came right out of the can.

It was probably slightly above Taco Bell and but below Taco Cabana. Especially when factoring in cost.

The only shiny bright spot to the whole experience was the tortillas. Wife and I both agreed they are better than any store bought ones.

Next time, I will just buy their tortillas and make my own fajitas.

I was really looking forward to Rosa's.

Then I went. Taco Bueno with a larger dining area.

I won't say I'll never go again, but I won't be the one dragging me. ;)

If you go to Kroger around 5 pm there is usually someone making fresh tortillas and they are as good as Rosa's perhaps better AND cheaper.

Which is worse - taco Bell or Taco Bueno(sp?)?

I will eat at Rosa's, but not at either of the two above. My family loves the Taco Tuesdays, but I have noticed that there is less meat in the tacos on a Tuesday than on regular days.

Depends if you are factoring in costs.

If price is not considered, Ive alwasy though Bueno was better than Bell. But, Bell is so dang cheap, I can overlook many things.

Taco Bueno wins by virtue of the fresh salsa bar vs. Taco Bell pre-packaged salsa, although in this category Taco Cabana kills them both with freshly made Tortillas, Salsa Bar, and decent Faijitas. Alas I digress.....
