If I believe I am the Sovereign of the United Kingdom, does that make me so?
What someone thinks he / she is, does not make it so. There was a crazy old lady in the small town in which I was brought up who thought she was the reincarnation of Napolean's Empress. Um, she wasn't. She was just bat excrement crazy.
The beginning of wisdom lies in definition.
Christianity has certain tenets. If one adheres to those tenets, and follows the various rites of initiation, then one is a Christian by definition.
Mormons do not adhere to Christian tenets. They do not believe in Christ's Divinity the same way Christians do. They have a completely different understanding of the nature of God, the Trinity, etc.
That does not mean they are terrible people. They can be great neighbors, business people, and politicians. But they are not Christians strictly speaking. They are only tangentially connected to Christendom.
They still piss me off when they come knocking on my door unannounced pushing their stupid ideas, though. My Native ancestors are NOT decended from the Lost Tribes of Israel. Modern genetics, linguistic studies, etc. can easily debunk such idiocy. When Joseph Smith came up with his religion, he had no way of knowing that science would eventual render his lies untenable.
I would not necessarily caste a vote for or against someone because they are a Mormon, and would encourage the gentle reader to consider very carefully the importance of the vote before us. The Republic is nearly dead. Four more years of Obama, and our country will no longer be a Republic governed by the rule of law. We will be subjects of totalitarian oligarchs, and no longer free citizens.
Then again, Romney is not much better than Odumbo.
OK - we are pretty much done for.
I think I need a strong drink.....
