I find it hard to believe that Copperheads are "very rare" in southern Denton county.

Brian the Animal Guy needs to check his facts again, the last I heard copperheads are very aggressive snakes.

Still not a copperhead, thankfully ... knock on wood ... last month I found a skunk roaming in my backyard. Today, a roadrunner. :?

What a bunch of sissies. We don't kill any of the snakes we find, we relocate them to uninhabited areas. If you've got snakes you've got snake food. I'd rather have a snake in my yard than rats and mice in my house. We consulted a herpetologist when we first moved to the area and got educated about the snakes we found. http://www.copperheadsnake.net/bites.htm
We were advised that the anti-venom is more dangerous than the bite.
If I am going to garden in tall grass, leaves or anywhere a snake can hide I wear boots and gloves and make noise. Yes a snake bite from a copperhead can make you ill but you aren't going to die. I've only seen copperheads, rat snakes, and garden snakes on my property.
I've never seen a rattlesnake though I know they can be around, if I see a rattle snake it might die.

Oh and lots of skunks, O'Possum, and coyotes and many other interesting critters. Roadrunners by the dozen.
Bathing dogs in the middle of the night= fun.

What is your address?

The next time I find a venomous snake on my place, I'll catch it rather than kill it & I will then turn it loose on your place and you can deal with it.

Thanks!

So true sandy. You dislike snakes, so you would go to the trouble of catching and transporting a snake just for me. How sweet.

Add our house to the list of favorite hang out of the copperhead. We had a visitor on the front porch on Thursday...my 3 year old found him and thankfully didnt decide to go pick it up and play with it. Fortunately, (and my neighbors with small kids can thank me later), it no longer poses a threat to anyone. We decided to take our chances on the "rats/mice" that "may" be around vs. this deadly critter.

OMG! Jlbates, I would have perished on the spot if that snake was in my house. I don't care if it was a harmless rat snake. A snake is a snake! How in the hell do you think it got in your home?

Catwoman, luckily it wasn't our rodent infestation that drew it to our house. lol.

We back up to a wooded area so I'm guessing it snuck into our yard and seized one of many opportunities to come in through an open back door. I'm just glad it wasn't bigger.

Mother of God and all that's Holy! Thanks for the reply. That's truly one of my biggest fears...that one will find its way in our house. We back up the golf course, but there is a wooded patch between us and the course, which is great because we have a little privacy when we're swimming, but I just know it's a snake haven beyond the wrought-iron fence. My husband has pulled so many baby snakes out of our pool skimmer, and one of my cats killed three baby snakes. I don't care that they're little. A baby snake grows up, and it has a big momma snake slithering around somewhere.
