Community Shred & Recycle Day at BTC

Postby admin » Wed Apr 04, 2012 10:11 pm

Bring in all of your old documents, tax statements, and the papers you have been saving to Bartonville Town Center on FM 407 across from Lantana on Sat. April 21, from 10:00am—1:00pm. Magic Shred will shred them securely while you watch. Up to 150 lbs or 5 boxes are FREE. If you have old computers or electronics bring them to Bartonville Town Center and Computer Crushers will destroy the hard drive and recycle them for you. Batteries Plus will take and recycle all types of batteries.

I assume this is open to more than just Bartonville residents?

I think Lantana residents should keep in mind that they usually frown on non-Lantana residents attending Lantnaa events. Not that I want to prevent/discourage you from having your stuff shredded, but more that you and others think about the appearance of keeping your events residents-only.

Not sure why that is relevant. If this is a Bartonville resident only event, then I would respect that (which is why I'm trying to find out - I assume it is "open" because this is posted in "General Discussion" instead of "Bartonville"). It's their right who to invite to their events.

There is a good reason Lantana events are not "open" - OVERCROWDING.

I don't really care about Lantana's overcrowding problems - that is one of their making. Getting all of Lantana to attend surrounding community events will cause OVERCROWDING in those events. So we should then have "all except Lantana" events to prevent OVERCROWDING. :)

Everything in this area has become OVERCROWDED since Lantana opened. Our roads are a mess, huge swathes of countryside has been torn up for shopping and other amenities that I'd have been as happy as before if they had never been here.

Well Uther, I guess you could always move. :)

No Al, I was here long before. Why should I move? I think that is a part of the rudeness and callousness of new people moving in and then telling older residents to "move if you don't like it."

The thing is, imagine living in a neighborhood end everyone throwing parties, and inviting all the neighbors. After a few years, it becomes clear that one of the neighbors also throw parties, but never invite the neighbors to theirs. The reason? "Our house is too small." Do you think it morally correct that the neighbors who never reciprocate with their neighbors should continue to go to/or be invited to the other neighborhood parties? Sounds like leeching or mooching to me.

If Lantana can't sometimes put on events that they can invite neighboring communities to, then for the same reasons they should not attend neighboring community events.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought the shred and recycle event was organized and sponsored by the Bartonville Town Center management and not the Town of Bartonville. Actually the link Max posted above says it's sponsored by the Mail Store. Therefore, let's not get into it because of supposed residency requirements.

Then you should have bought all the land you didn't want developed.

Because you are complaining.

The earth does not belong to only you... while you can certainly express your opinion, you have to realize that you don't have the right to control development so that it is in your favor vs the favor of others, but you do have the right to move. I can see how you might consider that rude, but it is the truth.

I miss some of the nature that has been destroyed as well. I don't like it. I understand your position... but it's not under my control. If it gets "too bad" then I can always move, though it is a big hassle. Life is constantly changing... some things get better, some get worse. :D

If their house really is too small, wouldn't it be silly for them to create or exacerbate an unpleasant situation by trying to throw a party that they have no room for?

I disagree. If Lantana residents are invited, then why shouldn't they attend if they want to? If a city or town wants to have a "private" event, then that's their choice and I don't have an issue with it.

I don't believe it's a "private" event. It's the Mail Store at the Bartonville Town Center, and probably not the Town of Bartonville.
