Mark your calanders - the DCFWSD No's 6 and 7 SPECIAL MEETING will be Monday, April 16, 2012 at 6:00 pm. I don't know where it will be held. I hope it will be at a location that will accomidate the anticipated large crowd. The meeting agendas will go out via email shortly. Now is the time to let your District Board members know what you want to happen. I'm still for a 3-way STOP sign at the intersection.

Copy of police report not available yet.

the FWSD has spent lots of time, money yes money too, trying to address what they identified as a saftey issue way before anyone else. And a child was injured so people want someone to blame...

Unless we get some traffic enforcement it may happen again.

Yes, yes, and yes. :D

I really think enforcement is key. IMHO, we can put traffic controls up at every intersection along Lantana Trail but if no one is around to enforce them...they will not be very effective.

i agree some enforcement is needed but if someone rode their bike into the street without looking, you aren't going to be able to fix that no matter how much money you spend or how much you try.

I guess maybe we should consider building a pedestrian bridge over lantana trail with an elevator on it for people to bring their bikes.

Very true. And speed hasn't been said to have been a factor either, yet it seems to be getting implied.

A random comment posted by a resident on FB today:

"It would be great to have several crosswalks with 4 way stop signs on Lantana trail. When I am in Double Oak, Bridlewood, Highland Village, and even Argyle I am stopping at stop signs constantly then you get into Lantana and have this long stretch of road that goes on for miles with no stop signs. I might add that there is also a lot more traffic in Lantana than any of these other neighborhoods. You would think this neighborhood would be as cautious for the sake of their residence as these surrounding areas especially because we have so much more traffic than they do."

More traffic controls (i.e. stop signs)
-or-
More enforcement (Sheriff Deputy on regular basis)

Traffic Controls. Ie Stop signs. Up and down LT and one more on Stacee lane between LT and Blanton.

Id even suggest those "high speed" speed bumps. Like the ones on lower greenvile that allows you to pass over about 25 mph but doesn't require a full stop and suspension adjustment every 6 months.

Id suggest a proposal with quotes with option of a one time collection by all in Lantana rather than try to spread it out indefinitely ie-higher dues.

Per police report, main cause of accident was listed as impaired visibility:

"Driver stated that the windshield was fogged over and he failed to see the bicyclist. Vehicle’s front left bumper struck the bicyclist. Driver’s impaired visibility caused the crash."

No charges were filed against the teen driver.

They gave the kid a freebee. Fogged windshield is a drivers responsibility. If you can't see out of your car, you don't drive. If the windshield became fogged while driving, you have a heater problem and/or are careless, but you should have stopped to clear it.

It may be that it was obvious the kid learned a lesson that charges/citation could not have improved on. In that case, ok. :)

That's what I was thinking... that is under the driver's control. Sounds like the kid got off easy.
