Fire on Manor Drive

Postby admin » Sun Apr 15, 2012 3:17 pm

Around 11:30am today, Argyle, Flower Mound, Denton, and other nearby fire crews were called to 612 Manor Drive in response to a structure fire. Upon arrival crews found heavy fire inside the home and through the roof. A 2nd alarm was called shortly thereafter to get more units on scene. Lightning is suspected cause of the blaze. The 9,000+ sq foot home has a 4 car garage, porte cochere, pool, pool house/cabana, a private lake, and more. The residence has been appraised at just over $1 million dollars. Source: John Burgdorf

It's always funny how if a house is not the average house, somehow the amenities and value are important to report....even if they're wrong.

Someone's house caught on fire, it's tragic whether it's a 7000 sq ft house or 1700 sq ft house, and whether it has a porte cochere doesn't matter when reporting on it catching fire unless it fell on someone or a puppy.

There's my complaint for the day. :D

If I had a building like that with a lot of land around it, making it a target for lightening, then I'd probably want some lightening rods on it.

I'm sorry for their loss and glad no one was hurt.

Al, does lightening have a greater chance of striking a structure that is surrounded by land? I had never that before.

I too am grateful that nobody was hurt. Especially seeing the devastation of all the tornadoes recently. We neeed to count our blessings and keep those in our prayers who have been tragically affected by the storms in the last few weeks.

My understanding is that it "likes" to strike "tall" stuff (because it's the path of least resistance)... so if you have a relatively tall structure surrounded by "low" stuff like land (assuming no tall trees) then I think the "tall" thing is more likely to get struct... but someone correct me if I'm wrong. :)

That i9s a good point. Go closer in to Dallas, older areas and you'll see them on most very tall houses. My guess it's the builders and cost and no one pushes them any more. Although it'd be interesting to see how well they really work.

Chimney intact, tile roof...lightning? Could be something else started it?
