Windows 8

Postby Common Sense Al » Wed Feb 29, 2012 8:48 am

Is anyone planning to try to upcoming Windows 8 Consumer Preview that is suppose to be available today?

I think I may try it out on an extra machine I have sitting around.

Nope, don't have a spare available right now. Would have liked to, but then I'd also have to buy a touch-sensitive screen...

I don't have a touch-sensitive screen but that would be a big plus when checking out Windows 8... might have to buy one if I see a "slick deal" on one. :D

Make sure you get a "multi-touch" LCD screen.

If only VM's worked as well as native machines...

I think I will get a Dell ST2220T multi-touch monitor the next time it's on sale.

Making my bootable Windows 8 install USB flash drive now. :D

Please let us know how it does virtualized. I'm assuming you are going to use vmware player?

I use VirtualBox sometimes, but not often since I don't have much need for virtualization.

I'm not surprised... I've run into various issues and limitations with VM's. I'm waiting for a new SSD (Crucial m4) to try it on a spare machine so I can enjoy the "native" experience and not have to worry about VM issues. Now if only I had that multi-touch monitor, but I can wait. :)

 Al, based on the "other" forum, you live fully virtualized in a virtual box!

Try HyperV. You can get a free non-GUI version that can handle up to something like 1 host and 4 VM's.

Well at least you are not using MS DOS 5.0 or something. Windows 95 was like 17 years ago.... wow... hard to believe it's that old.

It's like Star Trek: The Next Generation. It's hard to believe that show is 25 years old already. Great, now I feel old and I'm only in my 30's.

So you are the one who actually watched "next generation". Not me, buddy. No James T. Kirk, no Star Trek. Piccard is no James T. Kirk. What an abortion of the original, "Next Generation", "Deep Space Nine", "Frontiers" was. Feel free to roll.
