Mandatory Watering Restrictions

Postby Rosemary » Fri Feb 17, 2012 3:55 pm

Did the FWSD approve Stage 2 watering restrictions beginning March 1 (twice a week - even odd day system)? I saw something about it today.

Not yet. We were told that our wholesale provider Upper Trinity is expected to activate Stage 2 of their Drought Contingency Plan by March 1st, which will limit landscape watering to no more than twice per week. We are contractually obligated to do what they ask and Kevin has the authority to enact Stage 2 without a board vote.

Then it must be a done deal. It was in the manager's report in the paper that came today. There is also a news article about it in the same newspaper that says even number addresses can water on Sundays and Thursdays, and odd number addresses can water on Saturdays and Wednesdays. It also says "irrigation of landscaped areas and building foundations is permitted at any time if it is by means of a hand-held hose, a bucket, or by drip irrigation or soaker hose systems. Restrictions will also cover washing of vehicles. Those washing cars, boats, trailers and other vehicles will be required to use either a hand-held bucket or a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shutoff nozzle for quick rinses." Kevin is quoted, "I don't think these restrictions will be permanent."

Next question, who enforces it?

The FWSD staff will enforce it. See blurb here: http://www.crosstimbersgazette.com/loca ... links.html

Just in time for my new toilet upgrade. It upgrades the toilet so you can select between two water level usages - a low one for liquids (like #1's) and a larger amount of water for solids (like #2's). Probably installing it today.

I always thought the amount of water spent watering lawns was ultimately wasteful. More people should xeriscape. I wish they did that or allowed it in Lantana. It make become a necessity with continued growth and the greater need for water.

Since Kevin Mercer hasn't enacted it yet, an official notice has not been issued. When it does, we'll be the first to post it. I was under the impression at the meeting last week that there was a possibility it might not happen if we get enough rain between now and then.

FWSD staff will spot check the community for violations while they're out in the neighborhood performing their usual duties.

We updated our Drought Contingency Plan that included the addition of a 10 percent surcharge for excessive water use when the community is under mandatory water conservation restrictions, along with a reconnect fee if we have to disconnect a customer for repeated violations.

What is "excessive water use"? How is it calculated?

Too many "# 2's" on that new toilet. Enforced by the "Potty Police".

Got my new toilet system working. I probably wasted more water adjusting it and figuring it out than it will save, but I think it's working right now. :D

Today, a flapper just broke on the one toilet that hadn't broken (easily fixed but didn't notice the water waste for awhile

You do know that water usage during the months of December, January and February determines sewer charges for the year.

I didn't think of that/forgot about it... great time to leave your toilet running with a broken flapper.

I think it might have been trying to fill for 2 - 3 hours, but I can't be sure. I wonder how many gallons that wasted. :(

Anyway, the new systems I am putting in should not be as susceptible to such problems. Guess I'll be set for the next Dec-Feb though. :D
