I've seen the prices at Sprouts... I wouldn't say they're good.

Price is relative, but although some will say some things are expensive, and they'd be right in comparison to like products at the big box stores, they have things that are more unique that you can't get at the others; usually healthier. Either way, a lot of things I'm glad to pay more for, like a specific brand of jar pasta sauce that's real unlike the carp in the big name products.

I've been a big Sprouts customer. They got a lot of my business that Kroger used to have. However, in the last year I've turned back to Kroger for produce more than I used to because they seemed to have stepped it up in selection where Sprouts seems to have stepped back. I still do a lot of shopping there, but it's complementary to Kroger. It was my primary meat source before I started going to Old Town Market. About the only thing I get there now is their big old chickens. No guts, just chicken which I like and they're big enough to make it worth while to get 1-3 and smoke them at the same time. I pull the meat and use it for other recipes that I'll use smoked chicken in, like my own modified and kicked up version of a chicken cacciatore They're also a good size for just roasting in the oven....and priced right.

I'm afraid Sprouts won't make it once the new stores are in, even when Kroger is gone since the new stores will cross over into Sprouts' niche'.

I buy Bulk Coffee and Olive Oil at Sprout's along with Bulk Spices and a few other things, but their produce has been pretty terrible lately with things going bad about a day after you buy them. The front of the store inside always smells gross, and so I wonder about their sanitation. I saw an employee using a shopping cart to collect full trash bags from around the store and parking lot, and then he returned the cart to the front without even wiping it down!

Central Market and Market Street are more expensive, but I would pay more for the little details like having a separate, marked grinder for flavored coffee. Nothing like my French Roast tasting like someone elses Mocha Peppermint Cherry surprise!

Sprouts is very good but a much smaller selection. I think this Market Street will be closer too.

Best thing it to grind your own. Beans stay fresher longer and you don't have to grind every day, but every few days and it's still fresher than grinding it all and storing it. I can't remember the last time I bought ground coffee. I buy espresso about once a week and grind every other day at the most, but to me, espresso really need to be fresher.

I typically shop Sprouts on sales - but I agree on the declining quality. I mostly purchase vegetables from Sprouts because the other stores rarely beat their sales. Unfortunately I've had four encounters with chicken going bad before the expiration over the last year and am now very nervous about buying the chicken. :( They always made good on the bad chicken... but it shouldn't have been bad to begin with.

Great news!

This will definitely put s hurt into the Target/Walmart grocery business. I am sure there is pent up demand for a decent store in this area. The only thing better would have been built on Lantana Corner!! :)

I don't see it being much of a threat to Walmart or Target grocery business, any more than the general overlap. People shopping at either of those usually are doing it out of convenience or price, but Market Street brings something new to complement what we have now which is pretty much general grocery.

I just had a light bulb moment, an idea for the soon to be empty Kroger space!! A Skate Rink and dance hall!! :D

I'm all for new businesses coming to Flower Mound. I'm also for supporting the businesses that have been here all along. I am not in favor of council members determining who will win or lose in the market place. We call it the free enterprise system. It works, especially at the retail level. It doesn't work if you have the heavy thumb of government sitting on the scale.

Some of the postings on this topic show an honest skepticism about the transparency of the process. I think if you listen again to the comments of the Mayor Pro-Tem, who was presiding over the meeting, your skepticism will be validated. He mentioned Market Street at least twice, maybe more, during his comments. Months before this recent announcement.

I think a fair question to ask this council member is "Why were you talking about Market Street during a deliberation about Kroger?". Once asked, I think a clear, unambiguous answer is deserved.

Agree with your entire post Bryan. As an aside and from perspective of 20 years in Grocery business I must comment on some stores mentioned. Of the high end stores, the best in terms of quality AND price are in order:
1. Whole Foods
2. Central Market
3. Market Street
The high end Kroger that was run out of town, would have supplanted Whole Foods as #1. Sprouts is a niche store that has strong financials and unbeatable selection/prices on vitamins and organic meats. Market street will not be competing for those customers. If there is a quality problem the customer should address that with management and corporate. I have found Sprouts to be a nice place to shop.
The last thing we need is another Tom Thumb....oops we are getting one anyway.

Thank you future councilman Webb. It's called sink or swim in the free market. I want gasoline at the Kroger. FM council cannot stomp on a retailer that has been in the FM community for years, and be re-elected. Great for "Marketplace" to move in, but they, as will others have to "get 'er done". Kroger at FM407 and Cross Timbers, that has been the biggest staple of FM for years, got their teeth kicked in, by the current council. My 2 cents.

Not another one, the one on FM Road at 2499 will close. We'll still only have 3 and, room for another skate rink/dance hall or maybe it'll be a super bowling alley/dance hall and can double as a < 21 club 3 Saturdays a month until it closes and become Big Al's Liquor Emporium or Excapade 2049 or Kaliente Norte.

But hey the new one will have gas pumps!! Obviously not the kind of pumps that cause Council Members to babble in tongue incoherently so the town is safe. :)
