Fire at Meadows & Bonham on the golf course is out. Fireworks was the cause.

Another grass fire now reported across the street from Northstar Academy in Lantana.

I use online scanner feeds and we get calls & texts from folks who see and hear stuff. My wife said that if I bought a scanner I would be listening to it all by myself for the rest of my life...

With the high wind, dry grass and now a lot of Oaks are dropping dry leaves, it makes me wonder what all those folks I hear shooting fireworks are thinking.

I'm curious if the ones that started those fires called them in or were "questioned" about their brilliant decisions? :)

One of the people who was shooting off the fireworks stuck around and admitted that he did it, according to the chief. They gave him a citation. More here: http://www.crosstimbersgazette.com/loca ... blaze.html

I had my own experience with people lacking common sense. I got some of it on video... one scene of them was shooting a bottle rocket (or something) and it landing in the grass on HOA property and started a small grass fire. It was growing pretty quick and my neighbor who was closer said the people told their kids to go run and stomp it out. Good thing they did because that would have quickly threatened many houses (including my own) if it got out of control. A neighbor called this in and an officer (?) came out and I showed him the video but basically said that they couldn't really do anything (but he did flash his lights to get their attention which seems to have worked). He said pretty much the only thing we could do was watch and call it in if they start a fire.

They were also shooting some fireworks off that I would consider "commercial" stuff over HOA and other people's properties... with 'huge bangs'.

The officer who came out said the HOA could ban fireworks (but then who would enforce it?).

I really don't mind the sparklers and stuff that stay on one's own property, but many people have no common sense or care about shooting them off on other people's property.

The person (officer?) who came out for our street said he had to go because of a "grass fire"... then I heard sirens, probably the fire trucks... maybe they were going there.

There were three grass fires in Lantana last night, according to the fire chief.

I just drove down there to check it out, that was a major grass fire. Let's all get hammered and shoot off fireworks into high winds, low humidity and onto grass that is as dry as it can get in the middle of winter, brilliant and so cool! What if the wind was blowing the other direction and those fireworks went from Mason St. to the camp behind Lanatana and not onto the golf course? It would have been a heck of a lot worse and several of us would have been fighting the fire from the top of our wood fences.

I hope the clown that got the citiation for his irresponsibility pays out his back side for the damage he caused to the golf course. I wonder what the cost of that citiation is...not near enough I am sure.
