Fourth of July Parade Cancelled

Postby admin » Sat Jun 25, 2011 12:54 am

From Mayor Sue:

Parade participation is predictably very light on three-day July 4th weekend holidays. Last year was a three-day weekend and participation was very meager. This year is also a three-day July 4th weekend. So, after consultation, Carol Owens and I decided that we would cancel this year’s July 4th parade and concentrate on next year’s, when the Fourth of July holiday would extend over a full four day period.

We were additionally concerned that the traditional parade route would still be under road construction. The rebuilding of those residential streets was scheduled for completion shortly before July 4th – but, as always, road construction is subject to weather delays. This scenario seemed a little too “iffy” on which to plan a parade. Carol and I hope that those Town residents who look forward to our traditional Fourth of July parade and following hotdog lunch will understand our reservations concerning holding this year’s event.

Ok, so the parade that I told my 7 year old about for the last two weeks is not happening because of lack of user participation or lack of people ATTENDING? Because it's far more fun to watch a very short parade in 100+ degree heat then head over for free hot dogs than to sit through a very LONG one. So no. I don't get it. This just sounds like an excuse not to do it due to some other issue that is not being revealed.

I smell a COVER UP! :D

Really, who cares about the parade. We just want the free food and fun stuff to play on. There may not have been a lot of people in the parade last year, but there WERE a lot of people watching it. Also, last I checked the road outside, that I DRIVE on... there isn't any construction and what there is further down is not that bad.

And I'm guessing it's CC residents that actually pay for it, so.............. :D

Have we had that many rain or weather delays to prolong the completion of the project? A three day weekend usually has more turnout than a holiday in the middle of the week. I think coming up with an alternate parade route or having just a 4th of July picnic or lunch would have been a solution. Maybe Copper Canyon is trying to save money or maybe the organizers are just planning on going out of town.

Pipeline is right - you are funny, Tiff.

Yeah, in the scheme of things, CC is really just a pimple on the rear end of North Texas.

Thank you for keeping things grounded in proportion.
