New Review - April 17, 2008

My wife and I had lunch at Enrique's today.

The first thing we noticed was an unpleasant smell. My wife smelled it too. We got use to it after awhile and it wasn't so bad but my wife said she smelled it again on the way out.

Smell in the air (1.5 out of 5):
:( 1/2

The chips, salsa, rice, and beans weren't anything special. Kind of bland actually.

Chips, salsa, rice and beans (2.5 out of 5):
:) :) 1/2

I had the beef chimichanga, $7.98, and my wife had beef fajitas, $8.98, both off the lunch menu. I had an iced tea, $1.85. It was a lunch portion but I still thought the chimichanga was on the small side. I also thought it was suppose to be fajita beef but it wasn't fajita beef (may or may not be my mistake). The beef fajitas seemed bland like the rice and beans. The fajitas came with a small amount of guacamole.

We asked for more flour tortillas and they charged us for them - but only 35 cents.

Beef chimichanga (3.5 out of 5) - perhaps a little small? but still tasty:
:) :) :) 1/2

Beef fajitas (3 out of 5):
:) :) :)

Service (3 out of 5):
:) :) :)

I thought the price was high considering it was on the lunch menu and the quality/taste of food (esp chips, salsa, rice, beans) wasn't worth the price in my opinion. Value for lunch (1.5 out of 5):
:( 1/2

The environment (excluding the smell) is nice (3.5 out of 5):
:) :) :) 1/2

Overall for this outing (2.5 out of 5):
:) :) 1/2

Old Review - May 6, 2007

My wife and I had lunch at Enrique's today (May 6, 2007).

Here's my quick review:

Chips - 4.0 - warm, nice and crunchy
Salsa - 3.0 - OK (not bad, not great, just average)
Service - 4.0 - friendly, no mistakes
Fajita Quesadillas (we shared one Beef and one Chicken) - 3.5 - loaded with cheese, couldn't eat it it all, could have used more flavor, arrived very hot, my wife said they were good (which is above average for her - usually she says a meal is "OK")

Overall - 3.5 smileys out of 5
:) :) :) 1/2

Al, I agree. We've been going there quite often and have not been disappointed. It's so nice having a good Mexican restaurant so close. I wish them continued success.

I've tried to like Enrique's but we have had some so-so experiences.

If you ever order take-out, check the food before you leave the restaurant. They forgot to include both the Rice and Beans which came with both of our entree's last time, and they forgot to add the sauce to my wife's Enchiladas. The waitstaff could not understand why I was upset after coming home home and discovering the missing components. They did not offer to drive the missing food over, I had to go back to the restaurant. They also packaged our to-go Flan with sauce in a container which leaked all over the bag and the other food boxes.

On another in-person visit my Beef Fajitas were sliced with the grain of the skirt steak instead of against the grain and they were very tough and chewy.

Many of our neighbors love Enrique's and I really want to, especially with the nice patio area. Maybe next time will be better....

It's a decent place. The wait is short and that's my favorite thing about it...that and the outdoor patio.

Food is just so-so, but it is close. I have a feeling there will be one or two new Tex-Mex options close by in the near future :D

The 20 oz Jumbo Margaritas (house, not premium) on the rocks are good for the price. Not sure if they still are, but were only $3.95 on Wednesdays.

No wait, patio in the evening, 20 oz 'rita... good times, even with average food.

Last time we sat on the patio, maybe in October, two high school kids were playing the guitar and singing Snow Patrol/James Blount/Keane type of songs. Pretty talented kids!! Are they regulars?

We saw them. Liberty Christian students. I don't believe they are regulars. And I don't think live music is either.

Been a couple of times, after the 1st time we've only gone back b/c of the location. Food and Service below average, Margaritas acceptable due to location.
