Trader Joe's coming to Dallas

Postby jlbates » Tue May 03, 2011 4:39 pm

Just saw this on the news - of course by Dallas, they mean Dallas, but hopefully they'll expand with multiple stores. Plans are to be here within a year. For those unfamiliar, Trader Joe's is a specialty grocer.

Sounds like I could be a Trader Joe's kinda guy. But, most of our neighbors want a whole foods or Central Market. I think it may be a snooty kind of thing. I'm warming up to Trader Joe's. Do I need to wear Cammo? I'm in.

Whole Foods and Central Market are not coming to our area until we get the population density way up! Look at Lantana vs any number of better populated areas in the country and you can see why we are not even close to what they are looking for. We don't compare to Southlake or Plano in terms of population or median income so any hopes of them coming here are just pipe dreams.

Trader Joes is pretty nice. Id take it over a Tom Thumb, Albertsons, Kroger, Target, Walmart any day of the week. Id prefer a Central Market or Whole Foods near by instead. But, we wont have to worry- Trader Joes wont open anywhere close to us.

Regarding population density and opening of a CM or WF nearby- if this is the case, then we will never get one. Outside of Lantana, the area is set up for large lot homes, Copper Canyon, Bartonville, Argyle. Lantana is the exception. The income level I disagree with- this area has lots of nice homes with families of a median income that rivals Plano, Mckinney, Allen, Flower Mound, Coppell and even Southlake.

I'm not snooty and I want a Central Market. :D But I'll give Trader Joe's a try if we get one. I get to go to CM a few times a year... and I DO keep hearing rumors that Market Street still wants to move here and they're 'good 'nuf.

Although.. either MS or CM will be very bad for the waistline.

Funny, I'm thinking the opposite, with the availability of more/better fresh produce and seafood - it would be great!

My problem would be the availability of the delicious breads - I can't eat bread. :( So I don't need the tempTation. When it comes to CM bread =, I FAIL.

Breads would be nice too. I tried to find a Brioche recently with no luck. I know, make it myself, but I haven't tackled bread yet.

Well, well. Looky at who is all of a sudden refined and holding up his little pinky. I want local MRE's so I don't have to go all the way to Bass Pro.

 In all fairness, I wanted it to make a cream cheese and strawberry stuffed french toast. Had to settle for a good local baked white bread since I knew what I was working with. To make up for the man card slip, I did smoke a pork butt Tuesday and it's be best I've done yet! Fire, a blend of 3 woods, dead piggy parts and close to hour 6-7, beer. :)
