Ben & Jerry's in the Shops at Highland Village is offering a Buy One Get One Free Sundaes on Mondays. The promotion will run through the end of August and excludes their seemingly insurmountable Vermonster Sundae.

On the lighter side, Ben & Jerry's has also launched a new line of smoothies that are all under 250 calories.

Local Ben & Jerry’s Will Free-peat Its Free Cone Day Effort

Annual Giveaway, Thwarted by Tornados, Will Now Occur Tuesday, April 17

Plano, TX (Grassroots Newswire) 4/12/2012 - Around the country and around the globe on Tuesday, April 3rd the public celebrated Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day as usual with peace, love and free scoops for all. However, Texans looking for a taste of the euphoria experienced quite a different phenomenon.

No, it wasn't that Texas seceded from the union, and it wasn't a decision from the White House. This decision was made by a much higher power - literally. And so it happened that while fans were enjoying their free cones everywhere, Mother Nature decided to flex her muscles and brew up more tornados than the local meteorologists could count on all their fingers and toes. Sustained wind gusts up to and over 111 miles per hour forced the cancellation of the annual Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day at the local scoop shops.

"First and foremost, we want people to be safe; we’re fortunate that our neighbors, family and friends made it through this without any loss of life and that is worth celebrating,” said Ben & Jerry's owner and Grand Ice Cream Czar, Hunter Rose. “Suffering through the tornados AND canceling Free Cone Day isn’t a fair outcome for our community in Dallas!"

Rose and the crews at his three scoop shops had prepared in the months leading up to the April 3rd event to have thousands of scoops, cones and cups at the ready. But with most schools on lockdown for several hours at the end of the school day, many of those who would normally participate in the annual tradition were never given the opportunity. Rose explained, "We had also partnered with the North Texas Susan G. Komen Foundation, and we not only did not get this worthy cause the exposure they would normally receive. We want a Do Over!"

Not one to give up, Rose has rescheduled Free Cone Day for Tuesday, April 17 from 12:00 - 8 PM at all three of his locations: 1501 Preston Road in Plano, The Shops at Highland Village, also in Plano and at 2851 Craig Drive in McKinney.

The ice cream team is calling it a Free Cone “do over,” and invites all of the residents of Dallas to join in on the fun. “Even Mother Nature is welcome to join us,” joked Rose. “We just ask that she be on her best behavior this time.”

Ben & Jerry's Stamps the Dough out of Politics
Currency Stamping Stations Set Up at All Metro Area Scoop Shops

Plano, TX (Grassroots Newswire) 10/31/2012 -- On November 6th, Ben & Jerry’s wants to celebrate Election Day with you. Each of the local area Scoop Shops have set up currency stamping stations to promote a reversal of the landmark Supreme Court case, Citizens United. Local area Ben & Jerry's will be offering $1 Scoops on Election Day if paid with currency stamped at currency stamping stations set up in each of the three local area Scoop Shops (Plano, McKinney & Highland Village).

Hunter Rose, self proclaimed Ice Cream Czar and owner of the 3 Dallas Area Scoop Shops in Plano, McKinney and Highland Village explains, "The Supreme Court, in its close Citizens United decision inadvertently gave unions and corporations the ability to spend as much money on political campaigns as they wished. It has become protected as free speech. The decision led to the creation of Super PACs that are allowed to accept unlimited amounts of money from individuals and corporations to be used independent of the candidate on political campaigns. Essentially, it gave the notion that corporate money equals free speech." Rose further explains, "This decision has been exploited on both sides of the political fence to the point where we now have over a Billion dollars being spent on either side of the Presidential race by corporations hoping to prop up a candidate that shares their political view. There are additional provisions where donations can be made anonymously, so we don't even know if these contributions are being made by American companies. We don't want our politicians to be legally bought and influenced by corporate money. It has gotten too far out of hand and is heading down a very bad direction."

In an act of legal civil disobedience, Rose partnered with Ben & Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen who had recently become involved with an organization called StampStampede.org. Rose is the first in the Country to use his Scoop Shops to start a grassroots effort to overturn the Citizens United decision which now requires a Constitutional Amendment by Congress. The 3 area Scoop Shops in Plano, McKinney and Highland Village have currency stamping stations in which customers can stamp their bills with a message that says "Not to be Used for Bribing Politicians." Cohen explains the grassroots effort, "Corporations make their money talk by using gobs of it to buy political influence. This is a way for regular people to make their money talk by stamping it with a message that builds the movement to get money out of politics." Cohen further commented on the corporate and union influence over our elections, "This is monetary Jiu Jitsu--- using money to get money out of politics."

Rose and Cohen have not always met eye to eye on politics. Ben Cohen is a longtime political activist from the Left and Hunter Rose is from the Right and used to work for the George H.W. Bush Administration. Rose explains this as a bi-partisan issue, "80% of Americans believe this is a bad law that needs to be overturned." Ben & Jerry's has a similar campaign in their Scoop Shops around the country called "Get the Dough Out of Politics," but this takes it one step further. Rose and Cohen have determined that the law allows for the stamping of money as long as it is not used to fraud anyone. For example, changing a $5 bill into a $20 bill would constitute fraud. Cohen explains, "Some people think this is defacing currency. We see it as adorning your dollars-- beautifying your bucks."

Although Rose does not have immediate plans for removing the Currency Stamping Stations after the elections, he is offering an Election Day only Special of $1 Scoops if paid with stamped currency. Rose's three Scoop Shops are located at:

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission was a 2010 landmark Supreme Court case that was meant to restrict the Citizens United non-profit group from advertising and broadcasting a critical political film during an election period. The Federal Election Commission felt that broadcasting and advertising the film was in violation of the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA). The Supreme Court in a 5 - 4 decision held that portions of the BCRA violated the First Amendment. It struck down government restrictions on independent political expenditures by corporations and unions.
