It seems to me that when you spend your rebate check on outstanding debt you dont stimulate the economy. It does provide you personally with relief...but not so much the public or the economy.

The funny thing is that the last check we got was just a loan...not a rebate. Most people don't realize that the amount we got will be deducted from the amount we are supposed to get back on our taxes in 2009.........unless you are a deadbeat and don't pay taxes.

If that is the case, you didn't get the rebate.

This is the most ridiculous program a presidential candidate has ever drummed up. Good Grief! And this CLOWN wants to be president. Yes, I do not capitalize that word, with my recent total lack of any respect for those who hold or seek the office.

Let's hit Verizon up for 200 bucks a citizen. How about 300 per, from IBM. could Bill Gates fork over to all of us ten of fifteen bucks? Is this Barrack Hussein's answer to stimulate a failed congressional economy, with which he was a part?

No, it was/is actually a real tax break for those who qualify.

It was a stimulus check, not a loan or a rebate, or an offset of a future refund.

"emergency" rebate checks?

For what, higher gas prices? Come on, the US still pays less per gallon, or liter, than most of the rest of the world.

Has the rise in gas cost really hit anyone in the pocketbook THAT bad? I still see a ton of people shopping at HV shopping center, I am traveling for work and see tons of people eating out every single night- restaurants packed on a Tuesday night?? Sales of iPhones are still up. Wii's are a huge seller.

People have the disposable income. I think its the media, once again, making a huge fess about it all.

Suck it up, pay the gas, and get on with ones life. Its not creating a huge lifestyle difference for majority of the people in the US.

the texas economy is better off than the majority of the nation. we are also out in the 'burbs. I don't know of many low-income people that could afford Lantana, Double Oak, copper canyon etc..

Doesn't matter what others pay... if you have an economy that is designed and based on cheap gas and it doubles in price, even if the price is still less than what others pay, then it can cause some serious havoc.

Hasn't affected us too much, but we have cut back. I don't like giving so much money to foreign oil. And it's effect on the "less financially fortunate" would be much greater than on the "more financially fortunate".

I could rile everyone up by stating I read an article on cnn.com that stated that Iraq, had made a multi billion dollar profit last year due to oil.

And WHY are we still funding their reconstruction again?

Yeah, they have tons of money in oil and we've spent billions there... probably will cost us over $1 trillion when it's all done.

What I propose is a timetable for withdrawal. If the Iraq gov't wants us to stay longer, then they can start footing the bill (with some added costs for "profit"). :D
