Mortgage Bailout

Postby admin » Sat May 17, 2008 8:56 am

A new website has popped up for everyone who opposes a mortgage bailout. AngryRenter.com is the product of an conservative advocacy organization led by Dick Armey, former House majority leader, and publishing magnate Steve Forbes.

It alwasy cracks me up when people are against the gov't helping the poor, becasue it is their own fault, but they are all for a bailout for people who chose their own mortgage.

AMEN! It is tiring to hear people say they were "taken advantage of" when they sat at a closing table with an escrow officer and signed a ton of documents which showed what their starting payment is and what it is going to be when it starts to adjust. I think it's funny that many of these homeowners took risky loans because they were gambling that property values would continue to go up and are now asking for help. Maybe next time I go to Vegas and lose my savings at the blackjack tables, I'll cry to the government to stop those mean ol' casinos who took advantage of me.

When I read about people who think it's okay to walk away from a home I find it disheartening. I was raised to take responsiblity for my actions. If I had to, I'd get a second (or in my case, a third) job or sell my luxuries or anything I could to keep meeting my obligations. It's frustrating that people have lost that mindset these days.

I think it was more so they could have their huge house, their 2 huge SUVs, and their condo in Mexcio at the same time.

That's can-do-no-wrong capitalism for you... businesses needing federal bailouts so they don't destroy the economy (and executives still making lots of $$$).

But look at it this way... $25 billion isn't much compared to the spending for the war in Iraq. :)

you could look at this a number of ways. yes it's the borrowers own fault, yes the lenders should have been more cautious with their lending, etc..

the government could let all of these people end up in foreclosure and further dilute the housing market and damage the economy. I think that course is unwise. even Bush has dropped his opposition to the bill now.

Nobody made them sign those contracts. The buyers decided that they wanted to be someone they are not. It just goes to show you that people are not held accountable for their actions.
