Because I'm taking the consensus view, and assume that the experts know what they're talking about in this case... I don't know for sure (few things I would say "I know for sure"), but I think it's pretty safe to bet that the experts are correct.

I think you are missing the point & skirting the real issue.

This looks like a good site that explains things well (especially the myths):

Doesn't matter if global warming is real or not, or who to blame. We all are going to die in 3 or 4 billion years when the sun super novas, or December 31, whichever comes first. Just need to keep the A/C unit tuned up and buy more sunscreen.

This says it well:

http://www.skepticalscience.com/about.shtml wrote:The goal of Skeptical Science is to explain what peer reviewed science has to say about global warming. When you peruse the many arguments of global warming skeptics, a pattern emerges. Skeptic arguments tend to focus on narrow pieces of the puzzle while neglecting the broader picture. For example, focus on Climategate emails neglects the full weight of scientific evidence for man-made global warming. Concentrating on a few growing glaciers ignores the world wide trend of accelerating glacier shrinkage. Claims of global cooling fail to realise the planet as a whole is still accumulating heat. This website presents the broader picture by explaining the peer reviewed scientific literature.

Often, the reason for disbelieving in man-made global warming seem to be political rather than scientific. Eg - "it's all a liberal plot to spread socialism and destroy capitalism". As one person put it, "the cheerleaders for doing something about global warming seem to be largely the cheerleaders for many causes of which I disapprove". However, what is causing global warming is a purely scientific question. Skeptical Science removes the politics from the debate by concentrating solely on the science.

December 21, actually.

But there are a few apocalyptic dates lined up in case you are not ready for that one.

There is 2030 when resources run out according to the 1972 study.

There is 2040 when the event horizon of artificial intelligence is reached.

and 2042 when *nix clocks will wrap and potentially destroy all data in all databases everywhere.

Or you can wait for a catastrophic release of frozen methane from an arctic region due to warming,

Or any one of a number of meteor strikes.

Me, I kind of think things will end when I can't get my beer cold anymore. Life with British beer is just not worth living.

I think you left out a supervolcano. I think we're overdue for one.

Of course nuclear war is always a possibility as well. :D

Yeah, yeah, AL, We all know Yellowstone is 10000 years overdue. Just give me 10 or 15 more and I'll be good.

I don't do apocalyptic prediction dates anymore. Used to keep me up at night. You getting any sleep, Uther.

The sea level has changed about 120 meters (say 400 ft) with "little" manmade CO2 and we think man is causing a few feet change? And when we plunge into a new ice age, do you think Al Jr. should crank up CO2 to try to stop that?

I imagine Al Sr. (the cavmen) started passing ordinances banning campfires when they noticed all the ice was melting.

"Man is the center of the universe. The solar system revolves around us. Without us nothing would exist."

Perhaps this is part of the master plan - the end of the world. Do you think when the world ends for 'man' that the earth will cease to exist?

Even a Wind farm can cause Climate Change

Postby Uther » Mon Apr 30, 2012 1:02 pm

Well, so much for "going green" with a wind farm. Researchers suggest that wind farms in themselves can cause climate change.

Usually at night the air closer to the ground becomes colder when the sun goes down and the earth cools.

But on huge wind farms the motion of the turbines mixes the air higher in the atmosphere that is warmer, pushing up the overall temperature.

Satellite data over a large area in Texas, that is now covered by four of the world's largest wind farms, found that over a decade the local temperature went up by almost 1C as more turbines are built.

Back to drilling then.
