Report: Health care law rebates to top $1B

Postby Common Sense Al » Fri Apr 27, 2012 8:28 am

This isn't a myth so I didn't post it in the "Health Care Myths" thread. :D

Report: Health care law rebates to top $1B

Insurance companies will have to return more than $1 billion this year to consumers and businesses, thanks to a new requirement in President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, a report released Thursday concludes.
...
"Millions are benefiting because health insurance companies are spending less money on executive salaries and administrative costs, and more on patient care," said Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., a leading advocate of the rebate provision.
...
The study found the largest rebates will go to consumers and employers in Texas ($186 million) and Florida ($149 million), where Govs. Rick Perry and Rick Scott, respectively, have been among the staunchest opponents of the federal law. Both states applied for waivers from the 80-percent requirement and were turned down.

Rick Perry needs to go buy his insurance on the individual market. I still find it disgusting that he puts health insurance company profits over Texas citizens. I'm glad the feds refused his ridiculous request for a waiver on this requirement.

Now THAT'S common sense.

What a joke.

"Here is your rebate Joe consumer....now here is your bill for this year's higher premium".

Is this really something to brag about??

Would you prefer a higher premium with or without better benefits? I'll take the better benefits and "free" preventative care mandates. That will save lives and money in the long run.

Anyway, my premium actually went down the last time it changed - without losing any benefits... so I think it's just a bunch of bull by those against reform. At least this time, if premiums do go up because of the ACA, it will actually come with better benefits, unlike without the ACA where premiums go up and benefits go down (but executive salaries and bonuses go up).

It's rarely good when government decides how much private industry should charge, how much their overhead should be, what their profit should be.

In fact, before meddling with private industry, why doesn't government fix their house first ....

I agree... but healthcare is one of those rare cases where it's needed. I'm glad you used the word "rare" instead of "never".

Well, it would be nice, but doubtful it's going to happen... but that shouldn't stop them from at least doing what they can.

In the long run a healthier America will save even more money. But results will only be appreciated and hailed down the road.

Sort of like the CIvil Right movement.

Nothing in ObamaCare that makes America healthier. At the end of the day, it is an insurance bill. One that is likely to be proved unconstitutional at that.

Yeah, just tell that to the millions it has benefited so far, especially those who now have health insurance because of it who wouldn't otherwise have it.

Too bad the GOP didn't sprinkle their magic pixie dust on it so people like josh would at least give it some credit where it's due.

Constitution be damned, right?

Like I said before... just a matter of interpretation... the SC will rule on it soon... and I'm not aware of the Constitution saying that the gov't can't regulate healthcare & insurance. :D

Insurance, it's about insurance. And regulation isn't the problem.....but you know that but don't want anyone to remember. :D

Look up how many have benefited from being able to stay on their parent's insurance until age 26, how many seniors have saved on prescription drugs, how many have benefited form the tax credits, how many have benefited from reduced premiums (my own premium went down) and rebates, how many have benefited from the preventative care they can now get with no deductibles and co-pays, how many have benefited from getting rid of the lifetime cap (granted probably not many here), and I'm sure other benefits have gone into effect.

Here's a site with "facts", though I'm guess you'll completely discount it because they're from the gov't:
http://www.healthcare.gov/news/factsheets/index.html

Here's some facts regarding Texas and the benefits:
http://www.healthreform.gov/reports/sta ... texas.html

Two Years of Health Care Reform: Millions Benefited, Millions Saved

Just two years after President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010, millions of Americans have already benefited from its sweeping reforms. While the new law’s provisions will not be fully implemented until 2014, it is making a difference by drastically improving access to higher-quality care, addressing rising health care costs, and protecting consumers.

Many oppose health care act, and many don't know its benefits

I could go on but if the above isn't enough, then nothing is enough.
