Hot Air Balloon

Postby Common Sense Al » Thu Apr 26, 2007 9:32 pm

Anyone see the hot air balloon near Lantana around 7:30 on April 26th? I saw it from Larkspur looking toward the north. I've never seen one before.

Can you really go for a hot air balloon ride around here (legally)? If you can, why aren't there more balloons in the air more of the time?

I happened to be heading north on Hill Top Rd, just north of Hickory Hill, and saw it taking off. I pulled off the road to watch it lift off the ground. The air was so still, and the balloon was so quiet!

It seemed to be up for no more than 30 minutes, drifting slowly to the south east. Someday, I am going to try that!

I was up in one a few years ago in San Diego. It was great... truly peaceful when the burner is not firing. No wind at all because you move where it takes you.

Does anyone know the closest place around here where you can get a hot air balloon ride?

Before Heritage existed, we had one land there a few years back. It looked like it was going to land on the golf course. My son thought it was cool, we drove over and watched them load it up.

Didnt see this balloon, but a few years ago when living in Mansfield on the golf course, a balloon flew near our backyard. Two of my aunts and uncles were visiting from Indiana and we all enjoyed watching and waving to the balloonist and they were waving back.

I believe Plano has a big festival, and I am thinking its about this time of year. I am not sure if they offer rides or not, but my husband and I did a balloon ride in Napa Valley several years ago, and it was absolutely wonderful. Very peaceful and you could hear the dogs on the ground barking up at us as we floated over the valley. If you have the slightest thoughts about doing it, you should, its a great experience! Beverly

There is a place in the Frisco/McKinney area that has balloon rides all summer on weekends. I'm not sure of the exact location, but when we lived in the McKinney area, it was common-place to see the colorful becons up there every Saturday and Sunday morning. Our realtor at the time, told us that it was a popular summer activity for families. You may be able to do a citysearch in those areas...
