Mid-August Rain 2012

Postby admin » Thu Aug 16, 2012 9:43 pm

Rain is back in the picture for Denton County this weekend.

Image
A cold front will move into North Texas overnight through Friday and bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms. The best chance of precipitation will be across the nothern half of the region with only slight chances in the southern sections. Any thunderstorms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall...cloud to ground lightning and gusty downburst winds. Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase region-wide Friday and Saturday. www.srh.noaa.gov/fwd

An area of widespread showers and thunderstorms will move slowly southeast across North Texas through this evening. Runoff from heavy rain will result in localized flash flooding. Strong gusty winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning will also accompany some of the storms. www.srh.noaa.gov/fwd

I need to move my gauge, I'm sure we got a little more, but mine is indicating < .25. I think it's time to move it out of the jungle. :D

Great rain totals for august. But a 2 hour rain delay from Atlanta to DFW Sat night did not make me a happy camper for a 1/2 an inch of rain. No probs from Honduras to Atlanta, (Atlanta has a smoking lounge, sweet), I don't like sleeping in airport waiting areas, waiting for minor DFW storms to clear.
