Boosterthon at E.P. Rayzor

I thought I was the only one who hated this program. When my kid was in first grade, she worked hard and got a lot of pledges. In subsequent years after, I have not allowed her to seek pledges. I have not seen where EP Rayzor has benefitted from any of the money, and I hate hitting up family and friends.

Her father and I are the only ones who pledge now because I don't want her to feel left out when they hand out the cheap prizes, but I am bitter about cutting the check each time, not because I don't have the money, but because I see it as a scam. If I could see some real solid evidence, metrics, that the school truly benefits, then I will feel differently.

This program is so deeply entrenched into the school. Unfortunately, it's not going away, but I sure wish it would.

I heard the company gets 50%....what a joke....it would appear someone is tied into this company or is getting some kind of kick back.....the key word is "appear"...if the school needs to raise money then let the parents know...dont send home some kind of BS flyer called a boosterthon....

That's what lead to the "check drives" at my daughters schools and they only did the usual selling stuff fundraisers. Parents (PTA) don't want all the hassle of administering the programs when the net return isn't great. As parents, we can cut a check for no more, or even less than what we did for the junk, and the school get more, at the first of the year and it's done.

I think the suggestion this year was $35 per family and they raise plenty. School fundraising companies that profit should be illegal to operate in public schools.

I agree - my point was if they need money - let us know...I would be happy to give a check at the start of the year instead of my kids selling a bunch of crap....

Some things are best talked about among strangers, others, we can go to those responsible and resolve the issue.

Max, you're a journalist, what's the scoop? Why do they employ a private company that takes 48% of the proceeds? Who at the school or the PTA benefits indirectly? Are there any accusations of graft or perhaps covert funding of a political Super-PAC to aid in Pres. Obama's re-election? Is some of the money being diverted to Planned Parenthood? Maybe a covert Oil&Gas operation is being funded by this money? What else? Are they buying gender-friendly books for the libraries? Do the kids get to wear red armbands?

Inquiring minds want to know. Get out there and ask outrageous questions. If you don't ask, we will never know. Even if you ask, we may never know.

I got my "Bill" from the boosterthon. I pledged $1 per lap and it said she ran 30 laps. She told me she only did 25. I wrote a check for $25. Am I a bad person?

when I first heard 'a lap' i thought they were full laps of a regular sized track. Their 'laps' are like 10- 15' and they can walk
