UPDATE: It's an unrelated coincidence ... compressor's out. :x

PS: Got our roof, etc. checks in the mail from USAA today - other than having to wait until I called them to have our claim reviewed, it's been a decent experience so far - not the horror I had anticipated.

what makes you think its unrelated? I don't know why many are having trouble thinking our units weren't damaged. I don't have to proove to you only to insurance and 3 different experts say there were, ya'll need a little schooling on acs.

Um, because the AC guy confirmed it was unrelated :?

The compressor isn't exposed so the damage will be to the coils, or if they're exposed, the lines going inside. Most vulnerable is the coils. If they're damaged, they leak and you'll know it pretty quickly. If it wasn't cooling and then went out, it may have been leaking, but in this heat, it would have been really obvious if it were leaking.

If they have the original builder installed units, or like quality replacements and they're 5-7 or more years old, they go out.

Who is judging now? Teach us how to score a free AC unit so that the world (in this case Lantana) would be a better (cooler) place.

love Lantana wrote:Drama was not MY choice, believe me, if I had not done anything I would be sitting in the heat with no acs. USAA made it a HUGE deal. If we judged one another less and helped each other more the world would be a better place. If you had been in our house and saw the 'drama' USAA created you would not be saying that. I am an honest person, I tend to think others are honest as well, I don't understand when they aren't, I still do not understand USAA. They have been in business for 99 years I am told, yet they act like they don't know things, things that an insurance company should know and does know, by saying they don't know in my opinion lends to the impression of dishonesty.
Dealing with USAA has been a HORRIBLE experience.

Right. The fins need to be combed out, which USAA allowed for. The unit was not leaking, the compressor just went out - original units installed by builder in 2007, so not quite 5 years old. Fortunately we're under warranty still, so don't have to deal with the expense of replacing it - we have enough to deal with in replacing the roof.

We have USAA. I called them at 7AM the day after the hail (June 22). They sent the adjuster out on July 1. He said it would take 10 business days. I waited until I heard my neighbor down the street, who also had USAA was having his roof replaced. Then I called USAA on July 22. We had our check by July 25. Everyone at USAA I've dealt with has been pleasant and helpful. But then again, I didn't try to get stuff covered that wasn't part of the hail damage.
