Want to get more involved in your community and help keep your neighborhood safer? A great way to do both is volunteer with the Lantana Neighborhood Crime Watch.
The program encourages residents to be good neighbors by getting to know each other better, watching out for each other and reporting suspicious activity to the Sheriff’s Department.
First formed in 2006, Lantana’s Crime Watch program is currently coordinated by 10-year resident Zoy’e Nix. It consists of at least one block captain from each of Lantana’s 32 subdivisions.
Nix said more captains are needed and everyone is encouraged to go “old school” and get out to meet their neighbors.
“Block captains can help by welcoming people as they move into the neighborhood and creating weekly get-togethers or block parties where neighbors can meet face to face, because that’s where you make those good connections and people really start looking out for each other,” said Nix.
She said another goal of the program is to increase citizen awareness of crime trends.
When there is a crime alert, block captains can disseminate information to their neighbors through the HOA website and the Crime Watch and individual subdivision Facebook groups.

The Lantana Community Association’s Annual Meeting & Election is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 7, where residents will elect five homeowners to sit on the HOA board. More information will be coming soon from the Community Association.
The property tax rate in Fresh Water Supply Districts #6 and #7 was reduced in September from 74 to 69 cents per $100 of valuation.
A $5 per month water base fee increase, $1.50 wastewater base fee increase and a $1 trash rate increase was approved by FWSD #6 & #7 in September to cover increases passed on by the Upper Trinity Regional Water District and Republic Services.
Lantana residents are asked to wait until after Thanksgiving to turn on their outdoor Christmas lights. Per the Covenants, holiday yard ornaments and lights are allowed up to 30 days prior to the holiday and must be removed by 30 days after the holiday.
