2499 Open to Orchid Hill Lane

Postby garyb66 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 2:45 pm

Just got the following email from the Copper Canyon admin:

We have just received notification that FM 2499 is open up to Orchid Hill. One lane of traffic going north and south has been opened. This is still a construction area so please proceed with caution.

On a related note (from the City of HV):

Scott Kriston reports that TXDOT states the FM 2499 section 4 project is ahead of it's April 2011 completion schedule. TXDOT anticipates opening the entire FM 2499 Section 4 project November or December 2010. The contractor is constructing the Northwood / FM 2499 intersection, weather permitting. The proposed traffic signal for the FM 2499 / Highland Shores / Castlewood intersection is ordered, there is a 2 month lead time for delivery & installation.

It appears that Orchid Hill Lane is now closed where it meets 2499.

FM 2499/Highland Shores Blvd Traffic Signal

Postby admin » Wed Jan 12, 2011 3:11 pm

From HV Mayor Scott McDearmont:

The crane is out at FM 2499 and Highland Shores Blvd. today installing the signal poles. The exact start time for the signal will depend on control panel and public safety signalling device installation.

Ironically I was coming here to post that. I went up that way today and the poles and lights are up, crews were on both sides of the intersection and appeared to be finishing or dressing out the cable/wiring. Shouldn't be long before the feed sacks come off and HVPD has somewhere else to try to increase ticket issuance. :D

I understand why, but it's funny seeing the sign with speed detection flashing red constantly because the speed limit for the whole stretch up to 2181 is 40 MPH. And HVPD is usually sitting in the median watching, as they were today.

I'm surprised the lights aren't functional yet. :?

Well it's Friday morning and the lights are still blinking red along the Costa Hwy. Btw, I think 40mph is fast enough through a residential area. Does anyone know if there going to start planting trees, in the median, like our neighbors in Flower Mound or are we going to get the shaft there too?

From the HVPD:

With the increased traffic volumes on Village Parkway (FM 2499), HVPD has been deploying its message board and radar trailer for education and awareness in addition to our traffic vehicle to address citizen concerns for speeding, stop sign and red light violations. The Texas Department of Transportation established a 40 mph construction zone on the new portion of Village Parkway, north of Highland Shores/Castlewood Blvd, pending final completion of the roadway. Motorists are reminded to obey the posted speed limits and drive defensively.

That is the black "stealth bomber" car. It has been on 2499 for a couple of days now, and is manned. No cherries on top, unreadable HVPD on the side of the vehicle. Pure stealth and a cash cow.
