I use to read those dates on the FM site.. but usually they'd have a disclaimer stating TXDOT project and schedule.

Does anybody know how they might tackle the remaining 2 phases, both scheduled to let July of next year? Will they go at the same time, or will one get prioritized over the other? For some reason I had it in my head that the stretch from Lantana Trail to Chinn Chapel was the last, but hopefully this isn't the case.

So how are they going to complete this first phase by November 2011 with only 2 people working on the road at inconsistent times? I think one day a few weeks ago I might have seen a third person standing there with a shovel. How long should it seriously take to build the south shoulder up? More than a month? Because I think that’s where we are at this point.

Good question Tech.. I was wondering the same thing the other day. To me it sounds like a company that has bid and won more projects than they can handle, so they've got the minimal crew on site to at least meet some obligation that its being worked on and get paid by the state.

Most of the electric lines are relocated. The gas lines have been relocated. The shoulder is now being raised to redo the drainage. No proper drainage, no road. It is all about DRAAAIIINAGE! (There Will Be Blood- dry movie)

I get what they are doing, just seems like they could maybe move a little faster with more than 2 people. Reminds me of the 3040 work several years ago.

Or 1171 now. But here's the kicker. In the case as I understand of 1171 (and likely other road projects in the area) the contractor has no incentive to move any faster than he needs to satisfy the contract completion date and terms. They use their crews where they need them to complete jobs that need to be completed. They may only have 1-2 people there because they have to work continually but have another job that completes sooner. As soon as they get to the point they need to get that one done, or have resources freed up, they'll show and and knock it out. If it were me, I'd do the same thing.

Utilization of labor and resources; it's how successful business's stay successful. If TxDOT or the county negotiated an early finish incentive/bonus, they'd have reason to over deliver. Without it, over delivering cost them money.

This morning it took me 25 minutes (and I checked my clock) to drive westbound on 1171 between 2499 and Bruton Orand. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what the hold-up was. I felt for the car behind me. There were 2 school-age kids in there and I think they were trying to get to Liberty or Wellington. Damn near took my taillight out when they eventually got to Bruton Orand - but by then they were 10-15 minutes late anyways.

Update on FM 407 Reconstruction from the City of Highland Village:

Tiseo Paving began the TxDOT project to widen FM 407 from Briarhill Boulevard to west of Chinn Chapel Road in September. TxDOT has suspended all work by Tiseo Paving due to utility conflicts that have not been resolved. Currently TxDOT and Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell are working with franchise utilities and Bartonville Water Supply Company (BWSC), to relocate all infrastructure that is in conflict with the proposed reconstruction.  On November 1, 2010 work was suspended when the contractor hit the BWSC water line in the subgrade, which provides water service to an area of residents in the the Town of Flower Mound. The line needs to be relocated before construction can commence. It is anticipated construction will begin again in early February.

Well, this is TxDOT we're talking about. Have you been taking note of how long they've been delaying the 407/I35 intersection after they figured out that they could not build an underpass there? I don't have an engineering degree, but even I could tell them that an underpass in that low-lying spot was not going to work out.

Planning is not one of their strong points, IMNSHO.

This just in from HV Mayor Scott McDearmont:

"Agreements on abandonment of the utility easements along FM 407 have been made. According to discussions at Monday's Precinct Three transportation meeting, the contractor will be back on the FM 407 project within the next seven to ten days."

Whatever. 407 widening is about 5 years or more behind the infrastructure and population growth. We love the neighborhood but getting "trapped" in your area where it takes 20 minutes to get to a major highway is almost unacceptable. I am pretty sure I would have never moved here if I knew getting around would be so painful. Believe it or not but there is more to the DFW area the 4 corners of 407 and 2499.

7 to 10 days LOL

It's now been 30 days.. I guess moving culvert pipes on scene counts as work.
