From Mayor McDearmont:

"The widening project of FM 407 from Briarhill Blvd. to Chinn Chapel continues to experience delays. At this point the contractor and the Texas Department of Transportation are negotiating a change order to the contract that will allow work to resume. Updates will be provided at http://www.highlandvillage.org as they become available. The city continues to work with our regional partners to have accurate and timely updates on this project to our citizens."

Kinda like FM2499 section 4. Contractor made a bid and won. Then diesel prices went up, China stole all our rebar for the Olympics and the contractor cried, twiddled there thumbs and demanded 5 mil more for the project, and got it, after 8 months. Then diesal prices go down rebar becomes available, and the contractor laughs their way to the bank, with an extra 5 million. TXDoT needs to reach down, feel if any kahoneys are there and fire bid winners that don't abide by their contracts. This is a TXDoT issue and not HV or FM. What a bunch of mamby pamby's they are at taxpayer expense.

The contractor on this project should not be allowed to bid on a road project, in this state, for 5 years. That would open some eyes. I make a bad bid, I deal with it, and don't go cryin' to momma when I'm wrong.

It is what it is.

or TXDot needs to hire some contract experts from the telecom industry I am in. Change orders-my butt. You walk off the job-fine, but that is the last job you ever had a chance to walk on and off.

Posted by HV City Manager, Michael Leavitt:

This week we received the project schedule for the FM 407 project. Due to past delays, my personnel expectation of adherence is somewhat shaded. But in saying that, the first monumental achievement is the completion of the east bound traffic detour, the addition of a 12-ft. asphalt widening, with restriping of FM 407. It’s anticipated the traffic shift will occur the week of June 4th barring any additional weather delays. We will try to keep everyone informed as soon as we receive additional information.

It's a valid question. One way it may be the people that work for him that has expectations, the other it is simply him having some doubts.

Big difference if one's butt is on the Mayoral Throne. :P

Construction is underway on FM 407. Today TxDOT is closing the westbound lanes and moving all traffic to the existing and new temporary eastbound lanes from just west of Briarhill Boulevard to Chinn Chapel.

The Mrs. states they switched the west bound lanes on 407 and it's a mess. East bound is backed up all the way to Chin Chapel because there is no left turn lane into Walmart.

I don't understand why they just don't close the 407 Walmart entrances and make individuals use the 2499 entrances during the construction.

Because it makes too much sense? Went East bound today at Eleven, from 2499. Totally backed up, due to Walmart turners. West Bound was backed up to Briarhill and beyond. Going to be a mess.
