Flower Mound's first community-built playground, Fort Wildflower, will be standing tall in less than two months! HOWEVER, we still need lots of help! This historical project means an opportunity for everyone to get involved, and that's exactly what we need!! Since time is of the essence,we've developed a list of 6 easy things that you can do to help. As a valued member of our community, we are asking for EVERYONE to generously consider committing to one or more of the following:

1) BRICKS and PICKETS
Bricks ($100) and Pickets ($50) can be purchased and personalized for permanent installation on-site. Buy one for yourself, family members, students, teachers, friends, your business, and more. Click here to purchase: http://www.fortwildflower.com/youcanhel ... x.htmlAlso, you can turn in your order form(s) at Agave Azul, WinKids, or the CAC. All of these organizations are offering incentives!

2) SPONSOR
Purchase a playground component! All component sponsors will receive a permanent plaque installed near their item. Click here for a list of available items or reply to this e-mail to inquire further: http://www.fortwildflower.com/youcanhel ... /index.php

3) VOLUNTEER
Volunteering is our greatest need, and it will be fun and exciting too! Come make this project possible by joining your friends and family as we build the Fort Wildflower Playground together! Not sure how you can help? No problem. Please click here for more information on how to participate during “Build Week” September 11 – 15, 2012: http://www.fortwildflower.com/youcanhel ... index.html

4) TOOLS
We have significant needs in this area! We need items such as3/8"hand drills, circular saws, jigsaws, wheelbarrows, post hole diggers, etc. We will take great care of any tools loaned for the project by tagging them and returning them in the same, or better, condition. If you or your business can help with ANY of these items, please let us know!

5) TEXAS ROADHOUSE LUNCH 8/6
Although Texas Roadhouse is usually closed for lunch on Mondays, we are excited to announce that Texas Roadhouse in Flower Mound will be hosting a special “support the fort" luncheon on Monday, August 6 from 11 am - 2pm! Enjoy a pulled pork sandwich, fries and a drink for only $5. All proceeds will benefit the playground. Additionally, we'll have drawings for fabulous prizes too. Please help us fill the restaurant!

6) SOCIAL MEDIA
Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and better yet...post updates to your business site, e-newsletters, blogs, etc. We need EVERYONE to be involved, and your promotional assistance could help us tremendously!!

Thanks, in advance, for "SUPPORTING THE FORT!"

Volunteers, Tools Needed for Next Week’s Community-Built Playground Construction

Build Week is almost here for Fort Wildflower, the Town’s first community-built playground project and it’s not too late to lend a helping hand. Hundreds of volunteers are still urgently needed to construct the playground September 11 – 15 within The Heritage Park, located at the northwest corner of Spinks Road and Garden Ridge Boulevard.

Anyone who is at least 15 years of age, regardless of construction experience, can sign-up for a four-hour shift at www.fortwildflower.com. Hundreds of shifts are still available each day during Build Week. There are many ways you can “Support the Fort” such as completing art projects, providing child care, serving food, working with the building materials, or constructing the playground.

The Town also needs the use of loaned tools to accompany these helping hands. Many of the tools the project needs can be found in most garages, including 3/8-inch drills, power drills, and wheelbarrows. Organizers are committed to taking great care of loaned tools by labeling them and returning them to their proper owners in the same, or better, working condition. If you or your business can help with any of these items, please send an e-mail to r.pw@verizon.net. For a complete list of needed tools, volunteer opportunities, more information about this historic project, and other ways you can positively impact generations of local children, please visit www.fortwildflower.com.

The Parks & Recreation Division is excited to announce the re-opening of the Fort Wildflower playground at Heritage Park. The playground is currently closed to install a new rubberized fall surface which was funded through sponsorships, brick and pickets purchases, and donations. The rubberized material will provide a clean, safe, and maintenance free play surface for children as they enjoy the playground. Fort Wildflower is scheduled to re-open on Saturday, May 4 - check our website for updates or call Parks at 972.874.6300.

not taking my kids back there until they get rid of half the "swings (really shouldn't be called swings, but ER trip makers)". And also a maximum height.

It's a play area built by the public for the public and not meant to exclude anyone. No one has to use everything or even go there, or even think about it. There's all kinds of things available to customize play areas in your own back yard to meet your own personal needs.

I think it's pretty cool and kids will get hurt because, kids get hurt sometimes. :)
