Express your thoughts on an organic community garden

Postby admin » Thu Jan 05, 2012 3:49 pm

The Town of Flower Mound invites residents to participate in a survey gauging interest and support for an organic community garden. A plot in the future Green Acres Farm Memorial Park, 4400 Hide-A-Way Lane, was identified as the potential site for the garden’s location in the Town’s Parks and Trails Master Plan. Survey results and a recommendation will be discussed at future meetings of the Parks, Arts, and Library Services and Environmental Conservation Commission Boards, and a later Town Council meeting for further review and direction. The survey is available through Feb. 28 and can be found at http://survey.constantcontact.com/surve ... rxt6/start. For more information, please call the Parks Department at 972.874.6300 or e-mail parks@flower-mound.com.

Every Google search I can come up with identifies "Green Acres" and "Memorial Park" with cemeteries. Are you suggesting that FM is considering establishing a community garden inside a cemetery? From some perspectives, that sounds quite interesting. I wonder what the good folks in the upmarket homes in that area have to say about it?

It's 12-14 acres that a long time resident, Larry Davis, willed to the town. I think he died in 2007 or 2008? Actually it may have been earlier than that because the nature club by daughter was in in Elementary donated a bench. If I recall, that was the first thing ever donated to it.

Mr. Davis had certain things the town had to agree to before he died, and they did. 1 was that it would be dedicated to his late wife. I think a couple years ago an historic building/house was moved and set up there as well.

EDIT:

Here's some links.

Never mind. I'm surprised I'm not coming up with more. Just Google "Green Acres Memorial Park" and "Flower Mound". Most is small tid-bits and town council or board meeting items.
