Double Oak Town Council Approves Aerial Mosquito Control Spraying

After much discussion and public input, the Double Oak Town Council has approved a measure during an emergency meeting to conduct aerial spraying. The August 24 meeting was held in response to Denton County’s declaration of a West Nile Virus Health Emergency on August 22. The declaration by the County triggered a request to the Department of State Health Services to make additional resources available to Denton County for aerial mosquito spraying. Municipalities have a small window of time to take advantage of the opportunity to be included in the aerial spraying program funded by the state.

When the exact times and dates of the aerial sprayings are known, all efforts will be made to inform Double Oak residents. Residents are encouraged to check the Town website daily and to monitor local media sources.

Free mosquito dunks available at Town Hall

Denton County has provided the Town with a limited supply of Mosquito Dunks for use by Double Oak residents who have standing water on their property. Mosquito Dunks® contains a larvicide — Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI) bacteria — that kills mosquito larvae.

These are available for free at Town Hall while supplies last on a first come, first serve basis. At this time, please limit your request to 2 briquettes. When the County is able to obtain more, they will share with the Town.

Town Hall hours are from 9:00a until 5:30p on Mondays and from 9:00a until 4:00p Tuesday through Friday.

Double Oak West Nile Virus Aerial Mosquito Control Spraying Program is complete

The Town was advised by the Denton County Health Department Sunday afternoon that the aerial spraying for West Nile Virus mosquito control is complete for Double Oak.

There are a few areas of Denton County that will require their second aerial spraying Sunday evening. You may see and hear these planes because we are in their flight path but they will NOT BE SPRAYING DOUBLE OAK.

Please visit the DCHD West Nile Virus website (www.dentoncounty.com/heart/wnv) for more information.
