southern living Christmas cookbook

Postby love Lantana » Mon Dec 15, 2008 8:36 am

Anyone seen the new southern living Christmas cookbook? It is awesome! So many great recipes I can't wait to try. And the ingredients are things I usually have in my kitchen unlike other cookbooks who have odd things. I will be trying, Danish made with crescent rolls, ultimate scalloped potatoes made with frozen hashbrowns and marinated cornish game hen, breakfast enchiliadas, and oh so many others.

I love SL, but I have two questions for you:

1) How complex are the recipes - do they have ingredient that are easy to find at our local stores? With a house full of kids I've found that if it's not simple I won't make it and the book will sit and collect dust.

2) How healthy are the recipes?

My mother always subscribed to SL when I was growing up and I remember she would get the year end of cookbook. I didn't cook much back then but I do remember the pictures sure looked yummy!

I know what you mean I have lots of cookbooks collecting dust as well. Which is why I was just going to copy down a few recipes I liked. But ended up wanting every page, the recipes are from easy to find ingredients. Really simple too, with many of them just 3 to 4 ingredients. If the recipes aren't simple call for unusual things that I have to go find then really whats the point, IMO. Seems I always cook the same things, I want to make something different, something my family is gonna love. And I know what they tend to like so I have high hopes for these. We shall see. As far as healthy, hmmmm, they are not unhealthy, but you can always change a recipe and make it healthier. There are some nice recipes for things my son would in now way eat I am gonna try and see if he will. Like collard green stew. A way of cooking veggies so they will be enjoyed. You can also go to the Flower Mound library, they have a whole southern living cookbook section you could check out.

Thanks Love Lantana!

My husband is always asking me what I'd like for Christmas so maybe that is a good thing to put on my list.
