The Argyle Eagles played the football equivalent of a 12-round, heavyweight slug fest on Friday night against Gilmer in Corsicana, and when all the dust finally cleared, it was the Eagles that emerged victorious by a score of 51-35.

In a seesaw affair that featured seven lead changes, Argyle scored 10-unanswered points late in the fourth quarter to put the game away as the Eagles claimed the Region II championship.

Gilmer struck first with a touchdown pass early in the first quarter, but Argyle came right back on a 37-yard touchdown reception to Adam Khan from Austin Aune.

Gilmer scored within a minute of the start of the second quarter, and the Eagles answered on a 21-yard touchdown run from Aune, and after Aune connected with Ian Saddler on a 25-yard touchdown pass in the second, the game was tied 21-21 heading into the second half.

Aune passed for 300 yards and three touchdowns in the game.

Argyle went up by 14 points in the third quarter, when Aune and Sadler hooked up for a second time on a 70-yard touchdown pass, and then returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown to make it 35-21.

After Gilmer brought the game to within seven points midway through the third quarter, Cole Hedlund put the Eagles back up by double digits on a 27-yard field goal.

Hedlund tacked on two more field goals in the fourth, and a 26-yard touchdown run from Chadd Bossow sealed the deal for Argyle.

Argyle will play the Monahans Loboes (12-2) next Friday (12/9) at 7:30 in the Class 3A Division II state semifinals in Abilene.

Eagle Fans - We will be playing the Monahans Lobos on Friday, December 9th 7:30 at Abilene Wylie’s Bulldog Stadium. I again lost the flip so Argyle will be the visiting team and pre-sale ticket prices will be $5 for students, $7 for adults and all tickets at the gate will $8. Your enthusiasm and support for the team has been amazing and we appreciate it very much.
