Update: Suicidal man surrenders to Flower Mound police

Flower Mound police were negotiating with a man threatening to harm himself in an open area off West Windsor Drive near the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound.

12:30 p.m. update: A suicidal man has surrendered to Flower Mound police.

After more than four hours, police were able to resolve the situation. The man has been detained and is receiving medical treatment, according to FMPD Capt. Shane Jennings.

Original story Tuesday morning: Flower Mound police secured the area surrounding a suicidal man near the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound.

FMPD Capt. Shane Jennings said Tuesday morning that the man called 911 at 8:18 a.m. and said he was dealing with health problems and was threatening to harm himself. Police officers, SWAT and hostage negotiators responded to the scene, an open area off West Windsor Drive just north of the hospital. The incident is not affecting the hospital or the nearby Taco Bueno restaurant.

The incident was still an active situation three hours after the man called 911, Jennings said, and police are asking people to avoid the area. Officials were still negotiating with the man, “hoping to reach a peaceful conclusion.”
