Among many other Republican candidates vying for the GOP nomination during the March 2018 primary, a retired Marine Lt. Colonel named Mark Roy is running for Texas State Rep. in Texas House District 64.

His opponent is Republican incumbent House Rep. Lynn Stucky, who will be running for reelection to his second two-year term.

In the video interview below, Colonel Roy talks about his military career and his reasons for running for state rep.

The following info was supplied by the candidate, including his website: www.votemarkroy.com

“I am currently a retired reservist with 25 years of service. My civilian occupation is pharmaceutical sales, which I have been doing since 2001. I have participated in three different combat operations: Desert Storm, Assured Response (Africa), and OIF II. I have received the Combat Action Ribbon for all three operations. Fortunately, I have never been wounded, and I give all the credit to God and the great men I had the privilege and honor to serve alongside. My new mission is to give back to them.

“I am a Veteran Advocate and here are the organizations I represent:

  1. Commandant of the L. Cpl Jacob R Lugo Detachment (Denton County) of the Marine Corps League
  2. Associate member of the Vietnam Veteran of America Chapter 920 in Denton
  3. Ring Ambassador for 22Kill
  4. Mentor for Veteran’s Treatment Court
  5. Ambassador for Patriot Anglers of North Texas (fishing for combat Veterans and Wounded Warriors)

“I’m a resident of Texas since July 2001, currently live in Sanger. Originally from Lake Charles, LA., I graduated with a BA in Psychology from McNeese State University in Lake Charles. I love the outdoors; fishing, hunting and spending time with family.

“I am a semi-retired independent pro-wrestler and I go to shows with my son once or twice a month. My wrestling persona is Major Mark. Wrestling became a physical release for me after my tour to Iraq in 2005. It was something my son loved, and I saw it as an opportunity to spend more time with him. Now, I use wrestling as a platform to promote 22Kill. In addition, I am now a private pilot. My activity with the Denton County Republican Party includes being a Precinct Chair. I’m also a Vice-Chair of Veterans Affairs. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, flying, cooking, reading, writing and weightlifting.”
