You all know by now that we LOVE our locally-owned restaurants, but what about all those other locally-owned businesses in our community? Don’t you think they deserve some love as well? We do too, which is why we are thrilled to announce that we’re going to start featuring some of those businesses here on the blog in an effort to encourage residents to shop local.
This week I’m thrilled to feature a local business who completely saved me during my own personal landscaping overhaul – Schmitz Garden Center.
Owned and operated by Flower Mound residents, Joe and Jamie Schmitz, Schmitz Garden Center is a one-stop shop for anyone looking for any range of landscaping solutions. They can help you all the way from the design process to installation to ongoing treatment and are expertly skilled at what they do.
When I first stepped into Schmitz Garden Center, all I knew was I had a certain budget in mind. I had no idea where to start or what to do. Jamie was able to ask me questions to figure out what I liked, how much time I would have to devote to caring for our landscaping, how much I wanted to spend, etc. It was a total custom experience and I loved that she and her staff created a plan that would best suit my needs and wants.
Schmitz Garden Center currently operates out of two locations – one on Old Settlers and one just off of FM 1171. They first opened in their Old Settlers location back in 2005 and then opened their store off of FM 1171 in 2012.
The Old Settlers location is open seasonally and is your go-to place for trees, shrubs and flowers. And the location off of FM 1171 hosts their gift shop, pottery, fountains and plants.
And as I mentioned before, in addition to their incredible product selection, Schmitz Garden Center also offers a wide range of services to include:

Moral of the story is… here’s just a few of the things that I loved about my own personal experience with Schmitz Garden Center.
#1: They sell only the finest-quality plants (Jamie only sells Grade 1. Period – the end).
#2: Each person’s experience is tailor-made to fit their needs, wants and likes.
#3: They have expert knowledge in all areas of landscaping and can help you no matter what stage you’re in (designing, installing, diagnosing issues, etc.).
#4: They treat their staff and their customers like family and you feel that each time you step into one of their stores.
